depending on your income a $200 diffrence can be huge though...
Exactly & this how I am afected. I have had to rethink how I plan boats. I have not been looking into it far enough and wind up gettin out of hull before ever starting it. I was going to try and have 3 boats set up and ready for next season. Impossible now because they used diffrent motors and size lipos. For now I have to buy batteries, motors & ESC's that can be interchanged from hull to hull or I am reduced to a single boat. It will take me 4 or 5 years to get set up correctly. Just a plain and simple fact.

        Jay,

Honestly, I really DON'T think they are on the high side... Our N2-Monos are into the high-40s, low 50s... verified by GPS... and the P-Monos are considerably faster... I mean seriously... the N2-Mono record was held for a day at 57-mph by an El Lobo II... and then taken by a DH Mono... Imagine that kind of power in a hull that is actually designed to handle it... These two guys should be given the "balls of steel" award for being able to hang onto these things at speed!

I'll try to get some real GPS data next time out (in two weeks...) just to verify... You have to remember that these are HUGE boats in comparison to what used to be run... Also, the Q-Mono record isn't that recent... Things have changed a bit... and Brian and Greg are pushing the envelope of performance with these things...

In fact... we decided this past weekend that a 1527 1D is WAY too much power for the 33" hull... so I'm altering my current P-Mono build plans back to a 1521 instead... which is still more than enough power, but managable...

Take all that for what it's worth... I'll get some GPS numbers and we'll see how close I was... Or, perhaps lap times would be more useful... Those might be more meaningful and easier to compare... I'll see what I can do...

I have a friend that got into racing go-carts. His initial cost was $500 for a go-cart and safety equipment. Then he got the "RACING BUG", he has to win, no matter the cost. He has sunk more than $10,000 into a new cart with no end in site. He bought the best of everything. Some of it, way over priced. You can see a little of this in FE.

            Douggie,

"Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug" LOL

I was NOT fully prepared for the UNBELIEVABLE power that I had put in my Q-Mono.
I was fighting a couple of things on top of a boat that is not easy to setup in the first place, although I did have it running GREAT with the oval setup.
The first thing was being able to get the boat up and running (straight) even with 3 3/4" of rudder in the water, AND holding left in it.
The second thing was too much lift from the prop causing the boat to hook when it was up on step. It hooked and stuffed one time and we didn't see it for about 4 seconds. If I adjusted the strut to help prevent the hook It would just blow off. NOT PRETTY!!!!
After many prop, strut, and CG changes, I was real close ( within 1/10 of a sec.) to the record when I lost the motor and damaged my 40-160. (rotor gave it up)
The bottom line is that I need to learn more about, and practice modifying SAWs props. I needed less lift and more push to get the job done.
I have been talking with a couple of guys that have forgotton more than I know, and they have given me some direction.
I'll do better next go round.
As always, the more I learn, the more questions I have.:)

Very interesting Doug. Thanks for the info and tweaking a boat is what it is all about.

heck I know people that have 10grand sunk into their 1/8 scale buggies that race them I probably had close to 2000 in my 1/8 scale when I used to race them. I have since gotten out of that class and I am just having fun running boats now. it dosnt matter what the hobby is you can always spend too much money on them.

Wow! Really, a 10 grand buggy? At that price I want to be in the thing going fast myself!

I was surprised to see an 96 fountain gas boat for 10,000. I honestly did not know they went that high in price. The boat was a work of art though. I think before I spent ten grand with income I have now I would either finish restoring my truck or by a 20 ft ski boat.

Some of those high end boats do look like fun to build if i had those kind of funds. Right now 1600 is the most i have spent.
Where just a bunch A-hulls with boats...

well if you figure in the fact that he has a 8x26 foot enclosed trailer and all the support equipment (tires, extra motors,a turbo 35 charger, tools etc.) it is probably more than 10,000. the buggy itself is prolly worth about 2 or 3 thousand easy. then again he is a sponsored driver so the sponsers cover part of that price. such as he gets all his tires free from panther, usually about 10 sets for a race weekend at $50 a set.......etc. etc.

i have only been FE boating for about 2 years now, but man!! how much has the Aquacraft superve 27 furthered this "addiction" by making it affordable for new guys like myself. i KNOW i could and would not spend $1200 on one boat!(maybe 4 or 5) just kidding. and i know the SV wont be winning any of the big race classes, but damn, that boat is the best (and cleanest:D ) $250 i've spent.

Maybe this should have been titled "Over priced vs cheap"?

Can you tell that I am bored? ha
