    Bad Motors

Is there any way to check your motors to see if they are bad or demagnetized?
I "HAD" a new CC 120 hydra, on a new feigao 8XL with 3 total runs on it, new out of the box on 5000 40c Turnigys in my UL-1. this setup ran fantastic the first 3 times with all temps nominal.
Well the 4th time, I plugged it in and put it in the water, the motor studdered twice like it was binding up, and then the controller grenaded before moving 2 feet.(boom)

I'm getting tired of losing a controller every time I go out on mild setups.

Did you check your temps on the three successful runs? You may be able to avoid this problem by checking after less than a minute, if both motor/esc hot on mild setup, may be bad motor.

I will be watching to see what the verdict on checking a motor, but I just narrowly missed a similar case with notoriously troublesome motor. I put in new bearings, ran it on mild voltage, after two laps, motor was too hot to touch and ESC was getting on the warm side. I have ditched the motor and saved myself the smokey woes.

Yea, the highest temp on the motor was 130* F. The water in swfla this time of year is around 90*F so that doesn't leave alot of headroom so to speak.

I had a CC 120 do something similar. It ran for about 1 minute then it started to like "glitch" then went dead. Brought her in and found something similar to yours.

Any ideas about this? ... Brand new 8XL with 3 runs on it never over130*F... now I'm scared that the motor is bad

Does the motor spin freely by hand turning the shaft? Do you feel any cogging? If yes to both it may still be ok.
