    WTH is that ???

    What’s that Gizmo ???

I’ve finally gotten ‘round to designing a Hydro, & have placed the order for the building materials required to begin the initial construction. Once that’s nearing completion, I’ll order more stuff to finish the build (dependent on availability of funds). Once the hull’s finished, it’ll be time to pick out the motor, ESC, & drive components. Maybe the Scorpion Inrunners will be on the market by then. Hopefully, it won’t take 2 ½ years to complete, as was the case with my all fiberglass cat.

Anyway, I fabbed a Widget to aid in the verification of a specific design parameter. I’ve provided photos to assist all you guys to: Name that Gadget ???

Special thanks to Steven V. for providing the cardboard . . . .

              Tape measure?

              Glass table?

              Flat building board/jig?

              Triangle?

              Prototype part?

Which item in the picture is your widget? I don't see anything different or "new" there. Can you edit one of the pix to insert an arrow to it?

Oh you are all IDIOT'S It is plainly obvious that is a Wigwoms Geometric Girdle !!! They are extensively used to hold the parallel parameters in relation to the vortex of the horizontal plane in line with the obtuse angle of the thing that sits in it. I use them all the time . Don't you ??

                              OK.

It’s a mock-up of the sponson frames layout, used to check how the stringers will conform to the curves required during actual construction. An error as small as 1/16” here would result in a major design flaw. Check photo 3 in my original post, & you’ll see that I’ve made an adjustment to frame # 4 (it’s the one with the new cardboard frame piece attached with scotch tape). That’s the only change necessary to ensure all the wooden stringers will fit correctly.

No Widgetry is actually involved [I just used that term as a figure of speech; Gizmo probably wouldn‘t have been any better], but the arrow in the photo points to an area of structural design interest. To create a flat & rigid base to attach the mock frame members upon, I glued two pieces of 1/8” press board (which I still refer to as ‘Masonite’) together. That’s Elmer’s Glue-All which oozed out of the joint. Normally I’d have used Tite Bond Wood Glue, but I didn’t have any, & the wife had the white stuff in the utility drawer. The other photo is of the deck mold for the fiberglass cat I fabricated. For that (as well as for the cockpit canopy}, I glued & clamped 3 layers of press board together - - makes for an extremely straight & strong foundation for male fiberglass molds. Cheap, but highly effective.
