Hobby Services ( Waranty Srervice for RC parts and other... )

I would like to share this with you for the future reference.
Brand new motor was sent back to Hobby Services because it was not working. It was an UL-1 motor and water jacket. Too bad it was sitting on my shelf since August 2009. Than it was sold here on OSE to one of my good friends. After installing it motor did not show sign of life. With purchase receipt it was sent right away to Hobby Services. E-mail came in with ‘’out of warranty work order’’ for total of $91.46US!!!!! ( Whattttt????? )
Made my first call and told/request Hobby Services to ship it back without servicing or replacing it.
This time my price went down to $29.99 and it was acceptable. Next day e-mail came in from the same place but this time different person saying ooops, we didn’t notice you are in Canada so the price for refusal and shipping is actually $49.99!!!! Ok I said, and money went to their account.
Now I just got another e-mail saying they have my money but only $50.00 so my outstanding balance to finish up on this work order is another $41.49!!!!!! Get me out of here……
Please, do not ship parts to Hobby Services for service unless is within 30 days……….
Wait, even if it is in 30 days shipping it back and forward will just make no sense…..

So it was going to cost you $49.99 just to get your bad motor back?

    Yikes!

What a bunch of crooks, I would have told them to keep them motors and stuff it where the sun don't shine!

I had a similar situation when my SV27 motor died on it's second run. The boat had not been out of the box 2 days when I had to spend $25 to courier it back across the border. Thankfully it was still a warranty "repair".

After a week with my motor, they sent me an obviously used motor (which did work) with a stern warning not to run the boat on 7 cell packs. I had specifically told them that I only ran 6 cell packs, I guess they figured I was lying.

As I remember, they went to the extent of photocopying a page out of the manual and marking a warning about 7 cell packs with a highlighter.

        Nice and condescending...

              Ohh woww....
After my official complaint to them I am getting a return of $15.01US out of my $50.00 for not fixing it and sending it back to me....
Come on guys... Why not keep the $50.00 and sent me a working motor ( not asking for new )????

It does suck when you have something like this unused and when you go to use it find out its bad.

The thing is the companies warranties are expressed clearly. So thats the rules they live by.

Unfortunately for you it kinda screws you over.

However you got to think about the not so honest people that try to get stuff for free...

                They ruined it for you.

My motor wes new. Never used but hey, someone needs to make money somewhere, somehow, right?
They got my motor with jacket, my copy of receipt, my $50.00, my shipping to them that I paid...
What category customer I am in their opinion? There is no reason to help me out here with this? I think it is....
It is not about the motor anymore, it's the customer service..... Economy, bla, bla....
                    And yes, Hong Kong welcome!!!!
At least when I get staff from there and it will go bad I wont feel bad about it....
No wonder their currency will soon grow up in price, thanks to me and Hobby Services....
                    Bye...

I agree with you on the warranty end of things, as a company you have to draw the line somewhere. I would have no problem with them not doing it under warranty despite it not being run, how do they know.

But $91 for warranty repair of a motor! Can't you buy that motor from OSE for like $60 and the whole boat for $310? If you can't repair it for less than the cost of a new one, then let it be known they are disposable.

Also, as a company let people know if there is a minimum charge to send something in and have it looked at. I understand you can't do it for free, but if your minimum cost is $50 it will let people decide if they should bother or not. If it is going to cost me a minimum of $50 plus my shipping to send in a $58 motor that may not be covered, I should know that up front so I can make a decision.

Also pertinent is who is this hobby services? Are they affiliated with one company or are they a private company that does warranty work for several companies? That also changes things. Do you have an option of using someone else or are they it?

When I was talking to them before my motor was sent I got no information about how much this would be...
They told me they need to look at the motor first so they can sent me qiotation for service and their decission....
So without digging in deep I made my parcel ready within 2 hours not expecting what the outcome will be....
Learned my lesson and next time, if there will be next time I will ask 50 quastions more and think twice....
                        PS
New motor at tower is now $59.99.
I will check locally to see what can be done to this motor...

Wowwww, got my motor back from them, not fixed.
I stripped the power leads naked and discovered that there is no power traveling from connector to the main wire. Very strange. So I have removed the connectors, clean the wires carefully making sure there is no varnish on them. Than I have installed new connectors, new shrink tubes and gues what??? Motor works like a charm.....
I will never understand guys from Hobby Service this motor went to for repair.....
What a rip off.... Simple 3 step home fix did the magic...

Robert, that just plain sucks ! But check it out : The 4mm connectors on the SV-27 & UL-1 motors have a frequent bad habit of de-soldering from the motor leads - hard to detect under the shrink. I ALWAYS use good solder & 5.5's on my rigs using these motors. Plus I've re-built some UL-1 motors using a good rotor & good can from my supply of kaboodled motors - in fact the motor in my Insane Hydro test boat is one such motor.

                              I hear you.
I need to keep small connectors on it becouse it belongs to someone now who is running it with stock UL-1 ESC and stock connectors.
Issue I had was not desoldering. It was just not passing thru the power. I had my red meter lead attached to bare motor wire and the black to the end of connector and no power was floating... Bad connectors or way too much warnish on the motor wire ends...
All my boats are 5.5 mm everywhere....
                              Thanks Tony

Sucks to be me, thats for sure but still very dissapointed of how sollution oriented the people are at the Hobby Services.
I have no training dealing with this kind of problems, they do ( or do they ??? )
Like I said, to me that was clear example of rip off....
