    Is this strut big enough

Setting up my very first 1/10th scale hydro to run again and putting in a new drive line and also a BJ-26 motor with a straight .125 shaft. I don't know the specs of fullers struts and was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions about the strut I have.

Going to use one of the brass sleeves in the strut to step down to the 1/18th shaft not sure on the stuffing tube as I am a little uncomfortable using a 3/16 od stuffing tube with the .125 shaft inside it.

Is this strut too small for my 1/10th scale?

    Jim

Hey Jim contact Mark Barbee he makes some very nice scale struts for 1/10 scale hydros, they are ball bearing struts. here is his website to contact him the struts are not yet listed on his site.

I would advise against using the small fullers strut, I have snapped two of them in a 12 cell (NIMH) BL rigger

n2 or 12 cell brushed is about the limit IMO

Hey Jim I'd agree and say it's too small. I've used similar size on my Elam's in 12th scale. What kind of speeds are you looking for? I think that BJ motor is gonna be way underpowered for that size hull.

Knowing Jim, it could easily be a round nose - and before having seen Rod (Hydromaniac) run his I first thought the same thing, but then with all the air those pack in they actually do pretty good - riding on prop and a hint of a sponson or two.

And the thing I have noticed and like about the 1/10th is that it is much more aimed at scale than shear speeds. I think it will be great and can't wait to build myself one in the not too far off future.

Bingo Jesse. It is the very first boat I build back in 2000. It ran for a year then has been on the shelf and robbed parts off of her. Well she is going hit the water again. Maybe jus t maybe she might even hit the race course with Puget Sound Fast Electrics. The BJ-26 motor will do just fine.

The 1/10th do great with the BJ26 or SV27 motor, one of the club members hit 69mph on GPS with an SV motor, BUT this is not a sustainable speed the motor came back over 180F in just a few passes using a modified 447R.

I think I have a short video of some 1/10th boats racing, I have to check. Here is a picture of how they run, the Eagle Electric boat runs aired out like this in the picture all the time.

Typical speeds are high fourties and low 50's with similar motors to the BJ-26

Sorry Jim I didn't realize that motor's full potential I guess. Those speed are very impressive for that size hull!

I thought you had the newer larger strut from Fullers. That one would probably not cut it. You should try mine larger one with the bearings and an 078 wire drive...they are nice.
I will look at the struts Jeff. Most likely going to go with a straight shaft as that is what the rules of Classic Thunder and ERCU have to have no wire Drive's. though if Puget Sound Fast electrics was all I was going to run in I could use a wiredrive inside a straight tube.

Jim I just purchased a 1/10 scale from Mark Beatty in the Classic thunder Club in the NW. This is what he uses. Contact Jeff Wholt[Jeffry Wohlt <[email protected]>] he is making one up for me right now.
