    Paint remover?

What do you guys use to remove spray paint off of a hull?

I have bought a used BK Bandit S Cat hull that has a rough paint job. I know there is probably a nice German gel coat under that paint and I would like to see it. Is there any product that will remove paint but not harm the gel coat?

    Thanks for any help.

I know for a fact that oven cleaner removes paint. You should have some at home, so try it in a little corner and see what results you get.

Thanks, I will have to give it a try in a small inconspicuous area.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I think I prefer one of the chemical based paint removers instead of sandpaper because I may have a better chance of not damaging the gelcoat below the paint, which is hopefully in decent shape.

Is there any more insight on this topic?

I got a boat I painted and messed up on. So I painted more primer, color and clear to an OK finish. However I think I added to much weight to it.

So I wanna go back down to the gel coat and start over.

                  Its on a 16" hydro.

well my dad tought me a mean trick to get even with not-so-nice-people.....automotive brake fluid in a squirtgun takes paint right off of a car! loose the squirtgun and just use the brake fluid and a rag. put it on let it sit a few and you can wipe the paint right off. I have used it quite a bit on abs boats with great success. I would test it on a small spot first to see it's reaction to the gell coat. washes off with soap and water or simple green works best.

Dabbed brake fluid on the canopy.

Crossing my fingers. I got about 20 coats of paint to take off to the gel coat.

I wonder what soda blasting will do?Its like sandblasting, but baking soda is used.I do know that it will remove the gel coat, but since its down to bare fiberglass, you can have a body shop paint it with automotive paint.

I had some goo gone and tried that. Nadda... It seemed to soften up the clear coat though. So I wiped the hatch down with it and got the paint gummy like. It took a finger print- so it was softened.

I wiped it down with brake fluid and left it sit overnight. This morning I went out and kinda scratched at it with my thumb nail. The paint (2nd paint job orange and clear) is loosened up now. By the time I get home from work a stiff plastic brush should remove the orange. Then to get the blue off...
