    Flex shaft oilers

    Anybody have one ??
    I have a .150 flex shaft in a 7/32 ID stuffing tube
I have enough room to insert a short length of 3/16 ID brass tube into the main tube before any curve starts
The plan is to be able to rotate the short piece of 3/16 brass 180 degrees to cover and un cover the hole for the oil to leak into the main stuffing tube from my resovoir
Any thoughts on how big the hole has to be to get the oil through without going too fast ?
I have drilled a 5/64 to start with and plan on using SAE 90 marine gear oil
It will not be easy to drill a larger hole after I get the oil plumbing hooked up

The instructions for the oiler I have uses a 1/32 to 3/64 hole. I split the difference and I'm using Speedlube by CorrosionX. When I run out I'll be going back to 50/50 air tool oil and ATF.

Does the tank you have for the oil sealed or is there a air hole or one way valve to let air in and no oil out if you flip the boat ?

How about some pics of that oiler and where to get it or how to build it?

There is a small air hole and an elbow fitting where I fill it through a piece of fuel line. I haven't but you could easily cap the fill hole to prevent water getting in.
It's a Woods oiler the picture might give you a better idea.

Thanks. It always looked to me like I would never have room for one of those as the stuffing box is too close to the hull.

It's on my nitro boat and it just clears under the pipe.

Well I gave it a try and it seems to work good
First pic is the hole I drilled in stuffing tube
Second pic is the tap that fits inside stuffing tube . When the tap is open almost all the way the hole lines up and is wide open
Third pic when the tape is all the way around the hole is only about 1/2 open
Forth pic pipe to attach oil supply line

Since there was not much of the stuffing tube in the boat (skunk cat) I could not solder it on so I ender up making a form around it with green modeling clay and filled it up with JB weld

Fifth pic I made a tank from 3/4 " PVC pipe with 2 end caps Drilled a hole on end for supply pipe Drilled 2 holes on top Little hole for a breather and big hole for filler
Sixth pic all mounted and ready to go
Last pic you can see some of the green clay still stuck to the JB weld :)

Had it out today and it worked great
Did not need the breather hole open as the plastic bolt in the filler hole lets a little air through the threads
When the tap is turned off there is even no leakage
