    Motor Selection Help???

Need help selecting a motor for a DF33 clone. I want to run 6s, and I have a Turnigy/hobbywing 180amp esc on the way from HK. Prop of choice is a m445.

    Suggestions on the best motor:
    - 540 10xl, 11xl, 12xl, 13xl
    - 580 8l, 9l, 10l
    - ammo 36-88

I would like to see when the traxxas titan vxl motor would be available for another option, but I think that is too far away from release then what I want wait. I will also like cc/neu opinions even though its kinda out of my price range. My goal is the 50mph range.

If you want to run 4-5s I have a 580 7l that i'm thinking of selling. It should get you there.

IME the 580 has a lot of torque to turn some big props. For "budget" the 540's are okay. I like to keep my sport monos in the 25-30k rpm range.

If you have the money go with the Neu/Castle.

      Heres a 580 7l on 4s in a 31".

I know to get the best results I really should run a neu or a cc, but with so many great boats coming out I just can't justify the price even though I really want to buy one. Thanks so much for your input. How do you think an 540 11xl would do?

IMO a 540xl is not enough motor for that hull. You can probably find a used Neu/Castle 1515 1y for a little over a hundred bucks. It's well worth it! The 580 would be another good choice as well. I don't think anyone has really tested the Ammo yet, but it may be great!

So Rum your pretty wise, why do you feel the 580l on 4s/5s would be a better choice than a 540 11xl on 6s?

With a 540 and you boat size you will be loading the motor up pretty good. With the bigger motors nue/castle, 580 you will be able to spin a decent size prop more effenciently. That doesn't neccaseraly meant you couldn't run a higher turn 580 on 6s.
