    Optical illusion

I'm tuning a Syncron on 4s1p, experimenting with props. I've run thru the 1.4 props, and so far the best prop is an x448. The x450 still runs cool, but I am getting too much chine walking (but still a little chine walking with the x448). The 448 total pitch is 2.66mm.

I just ran with an x646, with a total pitch of 2.896. With this prop the boat was more stable, but I *think* is ran slower.

On both props the motor and esc ran cool. I did not have a gps, so I really don't know, but is it possible the prop with less total pitch could run faster even if there was no over heating?

short answer, yes. methinks if you had been monitering temps, that you would have found that things were a tad warmer w/ the x646...a 645 might do the trick.
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

I think your next step to test would be a 648 prop same diameter more pitch than the 448. after that time to start modifying props!

Maybe the 1p setup is limiting the amp draw for the system. I have experienced it in the past in a couple boats.

I also don't use a gps and go by eye, sound, temp and amp draw. Certain setups don't like high pitched props. Thats when modding props to suite your needs comes in to play. FWIW I just got back from testing some props on my Rico. My modded M447 is faster and has less heat than a bag stock M645 and a X548. That doesn't mean that after some finesse these will be slower.

Keep with it it's all in the fun!

The approach I was trying to take was to keep propping up until I got *some* heat... on the x646 the motor as esc were cool, even after a full 6 1/2 min run (only the lipos were a little warm, and that's 'cause I hit the LVC).

When I used the x450 the temps were only a tad bit warmer, but I'd still say cool vs. warm... the boat acceleration was amazing, it nearly lept out of the water, so it was responding to higher pitch, it is just with that much diamater I was getting chine walking when I approached top speed.

I think I'll try the x648 next...see if I get any heat. If I get chine walking I'll mess around with 645, 646, and 448 some more-- I don't think I've hit the "overload" point on the motor yet, but maybe I'm wrong.

Are there any prop tuning tricks with a large prop if you are seeing prop induced chine walking? Would de-tounging make any difference? I do like the speed and acceleration on the x450...

Note I don't have any stabilzer fins on the hull and I don't want to add any-- I want to stick to prop changes at this point.

Either detongue the X646 or get a M645 and see what happens.

              Thanks-- the x646 I tested was detongue'd,

well one could try a 3-blade prop...you could use a smaller dia. to reduce the torque effects and still keep the blade area :).

Start back cutting the 450 if you liked that prop. That will delift the prop and make it not lift the hull out of the water as much which is why your getting chine walk. You can also raise your strut a little and that will help as well. You can't just through different props on a boat without adjusting the strut some.

Unfortunately I have a fixed strut...

Anyway, I tested an X648 and it runs GRRRREEAAATTTTT!!!!
