I also believe ALL dealing on the item(s) for sale must be IN THE THREAD, NOT in PM's
I wholeheartedly agree! I recommended this on another board and it was adopted. Everything is transparent so there is no question about who offered to buy an item first, when the seller agreed to sell, etc. PMs should be used to arrange shipping details, etc - details which some may members not want to have shown in public.

I have no problem with PM offers. If someone wants to make me a low ball offer or some sort of hybrid trade I don't need them to do that publically. I don't need you guys to know I traded a 2215 for a sweet baby stroller somebody knew I wanted.

Its a great idea, but very hard to police. If anyone has suggestions on how to, lets hear them?
I think the biggest problem in the swap shop is people conversating in the tread. Also too much swap shop cops. My take on PM's, is if your making a offer or interest in an item at least post in the thread that your doing so. That way another person knows how much interest is in that item.
If all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed!

I like this rule....:)
Also T.S. davis anyone who does much with this hobby knows your name so to us you are certainly not mud:) I myself was on rumrunner alot longer then here... but after enough people spoke of OSE and being its got alot more "going on" I switched my attention to OSE... also I like Steves Service he provides through his shop and knowledge... nothing against RRR tho... its a good forum too...
down under in Au we have registered person2person mail.. only the named recipient can collect the mail if they can provide 100 'points' of ID.
Im sure US has a similar setup in their postal services... ?
Have a 'new' sale poster send the once off $5 or so cost to ose to get the verification of ID thing underway..and then add that resultant info to their profile .. we know where he/she lives !
The moment my firm started large $ sales overseas I endured an extensive verification procedure for ID and security.
Painless yet inconvenient ... now Im glad Ive got the added protection knowing those I deal with have been equally screened and stamped 'friendly'.
Because if we sorta still are.. I bought a FE Hydro from a reputable builder here on OSE who said maybe 6 weeks.. which blew out to 6+ months...and the thing fragmented first run.
A friend of mine recently discovered the same fast delivery regime.... still waiting for the 6weeks promise made before xmas2009
can we name and shame those here with long histories and high post counts ?
I ask out loud in this open thread because when I did post a what-the-heck thread it got vanished...!

You are so on target with that statement. There seems to be no respect by some board members who push a conversation topic in to a sellers ad. Steve, maybe add some binding rules to the swap shop about context? Do they ad value to the sellers product? No,.............most detract.
You can find it on every page! A couple items listed but 30 or more posts about whether its right for their application? Its rediculous. Thats why there are the other topic forums. Take it where it belongs.
I have been a member of this site for a good while, but really don't post much. That may change as I get into a couple projects this summer. This site has been a good resource for me to get current with FE boating. I have done busness with a couple of folks on this site as a buyer, but never as a seller. My post count is very low...I think this may be #2...
I would hate to see the swap shop limited to folks who have a low post count. I do understand however how we would want to keep scammers out of the site. Nobody wants to see our fellow hobbists get scammed. Maybe another thing to consider would be the amount of time one has been a member of the site as an alternate criteria for being able to list in the swap shop? 30 days, 45 days, or something of the like?
Just $.02 from one of the quiet members. Thanks for this site and all the info/deals that it has to offer.
What about Escrow.com?
---------------------- Why Use Escrow?
Escrow.com adds trust to the transaction
Escrow.com reduces the potential risk of fraud by acting as a trusted third party that collects, holds and disburses funds according to Buyer and Seller instructions. Escrow services are provided by a licensed and regulated escrow company.
When to use Escrow.com: Escrow is well-suited for items purchased on auction sites, automobiles, motorcycles, domain names, jewelry, specialized computer equipment, and other high-ticket items.
When to use another payment service: If you know and trust the other party involved in the transaction.
Protection for both Buyer and Seller
Buyers receive and inspect the merchandise before the Seller is paid.
Sellers receive their money if the Buyer accepts the merchandise
----------------------
Simply put, Buyer sends payment to escrow. Seller sends the item to buyer. Buyer is happy with item & condition, buyer has escrow release funds to the seller.
if the item is unsatisfactory, the buyer ships the item back to the seller. Seller receives the item in the condition it was sent, seller has escrow release funds back to buyer.
Make it a buyers choice to use this service (not seller) This way, if the buyer feels apprehensive about the seller, he can feel sure about the transaction with this service. Otherwise, if the buyer knows the seller's reputation, he can skip this option.
Plus: Steven, could you write a splash screen with the rules every time the button to start a new swap shop thread is pushed??
There are many ways of helping this situ. As a 'newbie' on here, I posted my ebay feedback when I posted in the for-sale section. In the main I usually trust my instincts and read into the person's tone of language in their PM's etc. You could also ask other people who are already members to vouch for the new guy??
I always use paypal too, then there is always a minimum level of protection, and I never ask to be paid 'as a gift', so then the buyer can always raise a dispute.

I think its a great idea it cuts down on problems, I also think that a rule be added that the conversation be limited to possible buyers and sellers, pertaining to the item for sale, many many threads are just overan with unneeded BS.

BOATER 76 had 505 posts before defrauding me. Thank goodness for paypal. It is worth the small service charge they charge to protect your money. I find it ironic that Boater 76 charged me a 3 % premium for paying by paypal. BG
