    Thoughts on Swap Shop Change

Due to a couple of bad apples being bad traders I was thinking of a change in the "Swap Shop" area. I'm thinking that maybe we should restrict users selling items to a minimum number of previous posts before listing a selling item. I've seen this on other boards. But I'm not sure if this can be done with VB Forums, so I have started a thread on their board, asking the question.

Let me know your thoughts. Good or bad all are appreciated....

If I remember correctly, you can have a limit of time on posting, but this usually apply to the whole forum, not sure if they can do rules for subforums... Alternatively, the posts can go through a moderator for checking, but that will be over complicated.

There are + and - to that one.

Pos- You can weed out new bad traders, but sometimes people have got screwed by people with many posts.

Neg- Every once in a while you get a good guy who wants to sell his stuff, but is limited so he makes a bunch of worthless posts to get over the limit so he can sell his stuff.

Either way, people have gotten suckered on forums, but typically it IS the new guy. I say do it, and if someone cant post maybe they can contact you to unlock it.

I think this a good idea. I belong to a straight razor shaving forum and this is how they run their classified section. Works well.

Sounds like a good idea. It would def stop people for hopping from site to site trying to screw people over and would leave only those serious about boating. To add I wonder if their is a way to limit the amount of money per transaction for new members. Meaning if you have "x" amount of post you can't sell/trade any items over a curtain amount of money. Kinda like a cap on new members. Just a thought. Anyway I like your idea Steve!

Tough one. Everybody made their first post on OSE at some time and they were not and still are not bad guys.

For the number of transactions that go on in the Swap shop, the number of bad deals appears to be very low. I suggest that buyers check out the seller to see how many posts he has before pulling the trigger on a sale.

There also needs to be some requirement for sellers to provide additional contact methods outside the forum.

I almost wish new members could still post but maybe the money a buyer pays for a product would go into a "different account" til the product arrives safely and in good condition.... then the seller recieves the money?

My thoughts on it are that if you are a potential buying, you could search for a persons threads/posts you can kind of gauge the persons responses.

I've even thought of some kind of voluntary fee. I know, not the dreaded "FEE". But 100% of the fee would go into a sort of insurance fund. But that would also be time consuming.

I just hate the thought of anyone getting screwed.

I think its a great idea it cuts down on problems, I also think that a rule be added that the conversation be limited to possible buyers and sellers, pertaining to the item for sale, many many threads are just overan with unneeded BS.

I also believe ALL dealing on the item(s) for sale must be IN THE THREAD, NOT in PM's

Is it me? Number of posts tells me nothing about a persons character.

I have no problem with PM offers. If someone wants to make me a low ball offer or some sort of hybrid trade I don't need them to do that publically. I don't need you guys to know I traded a 2215 for a sweet baby stroller somebody knew I wanted.
