    Does this look right?? pix....

Just wondering....motor works fine. It ended up underwater for 4 hours so immediately after i got it back i took it apart to dry it out ....blahh ...blahh...blahh....but this is what I found. Let me know.
Its kind of a wierd material that can be scrapped off the rotor..

Ahhh... I believe that's a magnet on the rotor there. (windings around the can.....hence "brushless").

If it works and you are getting the same speeds, it's probably fine....but beware....I've seen speed controls fry from bad motors. Hopefully someone a little more knowledgable will chime in.

They do come wrapped as per an old thread. Steve V. said the newer ones were wrapped.

              Dunno what happenned to yours??

Is the carbon comming off? I had one of these do it. It still worked but mines was a lot worse. Check out my Rico build thread as someone else had the same thing happen. Too bad that these little things happen as this motor is a real workhorse.

I just had one open last week. Yes, that is carbon, as installed on all 580s in the last couple of months. They had issues with rotors shattering... so do not scrape it...

Yup, Its carbon tow(single strand string). They use the carbon to strengthen the structure without impeading the magnetic flux. Helps hold the magnet(s) in one piece from the centrifugal stress at speed. Neu's also have the same construction.

On a side note: Super high speed motors use an Inconel and even higher strength sleeve materials to keep them together albiet they sacrifice some efficiency.
