    Hydra 240 running twin motors?

The hydra 240 looks like a perfect setup to run twin motors. It is basically two separate controllers piggy backed. It would provide nearly perfect power distribution for twins.

Is there any reason one 240 controller cannot be used to run two separate motors? (one from each board)

Ha! sounds good but just like powering each set of wires separately. It will throw the balance off and blow.

I'm certainly not going to try it, but I would like to see someone who has!

Tell me more about this balance? What does the piggy back pc card do? I'm not familiar with how these card setups work.

Yeah. One real big reason. The back emf coming off each motor is not going to be the same. Might be close but wont be the same. Thats why Castle does not recommend such an application. So rotor timing issues would be the first and biggest reason. Anyone else got their 2 cents?

You would probably be more sucessful if you were running a sensored design with hall and 3 magnets 120 degree apart lined up with the poles.

OK, so the small board does more than I thought. If there's only 1 brain... bad news.

You can easily run two brushed motors off a single ESC, that is an entirely different case. Running two BL motors off the same ESC sounds great and has been done, it is not recommended by any ESC manufacturer. For low-power applications it might work for awhile, but eventually the ESC will fail.

And I guess right now Castle doesn't have any Hydra 240's to replace it with at their service department so it might take a few weeks to get a replacement if you pop it.

Not silly at all. No one is born knowing all this FE stuff.

For sure! The best way to learn is ask questions. Lots of them... and this is the perfect place to ask. Thanks for taking the time to answer, knowledgeable answers make the questions worth asking. =)

The next question... could I stack two 240 ESC's and get a 480 ESC? The PC boards appear stackable and if the brain works the cards off of a bus... why not add more boards?

... but why the hell would I need 480 amps? Is there a motor that could use 480 amps? How many cells would I need to power that? Holy hell, like 6 10 cell packs in parallel?

Sounds like I could power a Kayak that way. Hmm...
