what to get for first brushless boat?

ok i have a rio ep and want something faster. i would like a boat that takes a 2-3s, max and goes at least 30mph. i also need it to turn left and right good since ill be driving it in ponds occassionally. also it'll need to be able to handle kinda choppy waters since the main place i'll drive it is a huge lake.

also if this is the wrong section please move it.

im a newbie(to boats) so please school me.

if you want to stay with 3S, 25" long hull is the max, a 26" DF (or a copy) would be nice, but do you feel comfortable in building it or do you want a RTR boat?

The jolly motor from mini cat racing. Look at the vid on their web site.

            Lake

A huge lake, main place to run.

Do you have a boat or recovery craft. If you need something that will go 30 and run in the rough, you need a recovery vehicle that is more reliable than your boat. You will end upside down eventually or often unless you have something that selfrights.

The small mini mono that sailr is talking about is perfect for that. Can run on a 2s or 3s.

I bought the cat version and after stuffing it and flipping it, wish I had gotten the mono version. The cat runs great, but it will flip.

Get the small 15" mono from him if you need selfrighting, or PM me for a deal on the mini 15.5" Cat!

              Ask yourself a few questions...

Your Rio EP is 25.5" long, how does it handle that water your running on?

You mentioned choppy water, I don't think getting a smaller boat that will go faster is the right idea as others have mentioned.

IMO, the natural progression would be the new SV27R, as Doby has already mentioned. It's a little longer and faster than your Rio EP. You will get every bit of 30mph out of it. Plus, once your comfortable with the speed and driving, there is plenty of discussion on how to get more speed out of it. However, I would stick with the stock prop for awhile.

              Later,
              Mike

ok guys. to answer some of the questions asked.

the rio handles the water i drive in fine. i'd say i've driven it in 6" waves(peaks) and it id ok. i wont be driving this thing crazily if the water is bad.

i would prefer an rtr, mainly something i can get from a hobby shop since i work at one and get great deals.

i dont have a recovery boat but i do have a canoe.

the only reason i ask for a 2s or 3s is because i have some of those but not enough to run two at a time except for one set. but i might end up having to buy more batts to suit my boat needs.

i was looking at the bj26 and the new p1 kos.

The BJ26 is what hooked me on boats... was my first one... 20 boats later I still remember the fun I had with that bj26..... I would go with the Blackjack... very reliable and quite fast..... very nice looking boat too.... and can be upgraded very well.... the venoms look nice but for a first boat they seem to have a few more issues....

Yeh or you could start a "wanting to buy thread" and find a Aeromarine Titan 29.... a real boat.... and is great in the rough stuff for its size and can run fairly economically.... sweet hulls you'll never outgrow...

Not too bust your dreams of a P1, but I would honestly stay away from Venom right now until they get their act together. Just read the countless issues everyone is having with their boats, batteries etc and parts available is a big issue as well. I think you would honestly be better off getting the SV27R or even the orignal SV27 for that matter. It is has been tested and proven and most importantly the designer of the boat is often of this forum for any questions you may ask. I think the P1 is a 2nd or even 3rd boat because of the issues you will have it you will be more knowledgable on fixing them. Just my 2 cents, I would hate for you to buy a new boat and it only runs once or twice before like most people are finding out with the EKOS
