    UL 1 Motor Upgrade

Does anyone know of a upgrade motor I can use in my UL 1 using the stock esc?I dont want to fork out the money for a Neu or other high end motor. Was thinking more of a Ammo or Feigao?Any suggestions?

What type of speeds are you getting out of your ul-1 now? You should be high 40s to low 50s with stock power, if your not getting these speeds then work on set-up first. Ul-1 power is very good.

You should be able to push the hull beyond what it likes with the UL-1 motor. As stated above if you are not in the low 50s then work on setup. The UL-1 motor is underrated , we have been able to use them for racing at 90 amps in the JAE rigger. Of course thats not out beating it for long periods of time a heat of racing is over in about 2 min. I would say you are better off with the UL1 for the $60.00 and spending some money to find the right prop.

Its in the mid 40's rite now on out of the box settings.I dont know why,but the motor smells a bit burnt. The hottest its gotten is 150 degrees. To me, that dont justify hot.The props I have are an Octura x442 and a x445, and a Grimracer 40x52/3.Ive found it runs the best on the 442.As far as speed goes anyway. And all props are sharpened and balanced. With the 442 it ran 45.8mph on gps.Im not experienced with tuning the strut, rudder, and turn fin,but its time I start learning.I really want to join the local club and go racing,so I dont want to look like a total new guy.

Actually 150 is really hot, motors start to de-mag around then. The x445 is maybe too much prop. Stock motor you should be running faster than that. Start with setting your strut depth to around 1", also tuck the rudder in a little bit. Instead of buying a new motor try buying a grim L40x57/3 prop. With these adjustment you should be running around 50 on the dot. Open up your rudder pick-up with small rat file, and round off the lower leading edge of the rudder. Did you purchase a better water jacket for your motor yet? Try working on getting those temps down. What batteries are you using?

Ill open up the rudder a bit.Im using Venom 2s in series 5000mah,20c.I know I could stand to use I higher c rating, but funds dont permit it right now.Ive had my eye on ThunderPower 2s with 50c/100c batteries. No I dont have a better water jacket yet.I made separate water pickups for the motor and esc using 1/4o.d. silicon tubing.I use the rudder for the motor and a brass tube with an angle cut in it for the esc.The esc pickup is mounted behind the prop so water blows it in good. Was this pickup a bad idea?

The batteries are def a hurting point. Save your money and buy these http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10305. Hobby city especialy turnigy and zippy batteries are awesome and at a steal. Not sure if the pick was a bad Idea or not. Run some test and report the results here, we would love to here about it. Charge some batteries run document, then re-charge take off the pickup and run again. Make sure everything on both runs is as close to being an identical as possible. I think with some better lipos, that new prop and adjusting your strut you will see better results than just buying a new motor.

Thanks,Diesel.Ill do that tomorrow.Only without the grim prop.Have to order that.I tried the same pick up in a cat I have and you could see the water shooting out of the discharge about 6" moving about half throttle. If its creating too much drag on my ul1,Ill take it off and figure something else out.Is there anything I can do to the turn fin as far as tuning goes?

I agree on the UL-1 motor........its a good one. Even going to a Feigao XL wont really be much of a speed increase at all when you're already pushin 50. Going at that speed, an additional 200 watts or so will give minimal results where extra speed is concerned. I know you mentioned not wanting to spend $$ on a Neu but consider a Neu 1415 1Y, or the 1512 2.5D as they are not terribly expensive...........its worth it, i own a couple Neu's but went the cheap route first, wish i hadnt.

Diesel, Tried to PM you on the 7xl m445 4S amp question, but I can't attach a pic in pm's?........here's a snapshot of the 7xl run...Thought it was 57, it was 56..but keep in mind boat is almost twice as heavy with 2-3 major fiberglass repairs, soaked inner foam ( I will never inject foam in these hulls ever again, the slightest crack or migration of water into the hull and the foam soaks it up and acts like a sponge, these boats are so heavy now that i consider the hulls totaled) and not tuned right yet at all......temp 1 is motor, temp 2 is esc, temp 3 are batteries...amps are good, don't know if the rpms are good or not, but I do know that the larger props were dropping the rpm's down...I'm gonna try a 5 or 6S next to swing a better rpm...............Norm
