I use marine bearing grease on the cable and re-apply every third run.

Since this is your first run, I'd check/re-lube it after the 1st run.

I'm all eyes on this one. I have recently put a outboard on my rescue craft I lube the shaft as normal and spray PB Blaster after. Even the motor get doused. At the end of the day I flush everything with fresh water then re grease and re spray with lube.

I heard several people use a mixture 50-/50 of STP oil treatment & motor oil , or gear lube.

I use outboard gear oil these days and just squirt it into the hole in the side of the lower

I used to use 50/50 STP and Auto trans fluid but it is VERY messy, with the gear oil I have not had any troubles (touch wood)

Just be sure to remove the cable at the end of the day and wipe it clean/dry and store untill ready to use, then put it back in the lower and run your boat. (i store mine in a container Mini M&M's came in when I visited the states 3 years ago LOL)

50/50 Marval Mystery oil and STP. Squirt some in the oil port every run. Spray the motor out with CorosionX at the end of the day.

Why not just use Grimracer or FunRCBoats cable grease...or even the old Prather grease? Doesn't fly off at high RPM and it's not at all "messy" like liquids...and when you're done, take the cable out and use a pipe cleaner to get the old grease/water emulsion out.
              I let the dogs out...

                  I use marine grease.

Step 1: remove lower shaft and motor mount plate assembly from the lower end.

Step2: insert grease gun or syringe on the lower end of lower end and fill with grease.

Step3: re-install lower prop shaft assem.

Step4: put flex cable in from the top just so it enters the lower shaft assembly...some grease may get squeezed back up the stuffing tube.

Step5: Put motor mount back on (with the motor on and coupler) aligning the coupler onto the flex shaft. Spin the whole assembly a little to ensure the squared cable ends are inserted properly and the prop shaft spins with the motor mount assembly. And that there is no binding...a little slop (1/8" approx) clearance between the lower and upper coupler to let the cable float.

Re apply every 3 runs or so. If the whole lower end gets dunked spray it all out with Corrosion X.

Another alternative is to just use the Corrosion X every run but I like to have something heavier in the stuffing tube to prevent wear.

The Grim racer grease is too light for my likings. Mercury cable grease and a small grease gun are always in my toolbox.

Brian thinks he's a chemist and likes to mix things....even alcohol!!!! LOL I am sure that works well too.

I use chainsaw bar oil. Not as much drag as grease and sticky enough to stay put.

Steve sells it on here on his site.

I would not use what is sold in auto stores.
