    Prop mods

I read in one thread where it was said you can tell how well the prop is working
by the roostertail. While a nice high wall of water looks impressive you really want
it to be low.My question is can this be done by cupping the prop or would you
detongue it.I do realize you can only find out what works best for your set-up by
grabbing some props and start filing but some direction into which way to start would be great.
I know there are some guys that can do some mods for you but
how do you now what you nead
Sorry if this seams long winded.

Looking at the rooster tail can tell you a couple of things. Strut not deep enough, too much/little angle/prop issues. But its an indicator. Not a testament to how well the prop makes the hull run.

Look at the video of Joergs record setting SAW pass. Tell me that rooster tail is the "perfect" one we should all try for?

You are correct in assuming that cupping can reduce the spray or roll off from the blade tips. Very common fix. Narrows the thrust cone and reduces the lift.

What kind of modifications can you do to increase lift?

Thats easy. Change the side that the blade edge is sharpened on. Normaly you sharpen a props edge from the rolled edge or back side. Dull the prop edge and sharpen it from the cupped side. This will in effect roll off the water thru out the rake and will increase lift. But it could be ugly. Another method less effective would be to put an angle on the trailing edge. The angle should be in the direction of rotation as this will again in effect the water as it exits off the blades surface.
