    feigao 9XL smoked

Hi just a question more out of curiosity then any thing else.I have a feigao 9XL that was in my cat that melted my 120amp turnigy esc and i thought it was the problem so i tried the motor in another boat and it started to smoke. I opened up the motor and i see one winding turning black. So did the motor cause the ESC to melt or did the esc damage the motor.I was running on 4S and the datalogger recorded a 185amp spike when it happened.

Having demagnitized a motor and fried and ESC before, I am betting the motor failed, caused a large amp draw which then fries the ESC. Nice expensive chain reaction huh?

Strange , i had a boat with a xl9 , china copy agitator on 6s lipo and even a MHZ Lizard Xtreme with a xl9 on 6s lipo with no problems at all both with a ETTI 125amp and x442 prop . Did you change any setting in the Turnigy .

i ran that esc in my other boat on 2s so i only changed it to 4s .
lvc set a 3.4 and 0 degree timing.Expensive but part of the learning curve
i figure plus I have that special smelling boat to lol

I'm not saying that this is the cause of the failure, but the timing should be higher than 0 degrees.
More like 7 or 10. Some even run 15 degrees. But zero is not the best on these motors.
Hard to say with the failure, sometimes the motor burns & takes out the ESC. Sometimes it's the other way around.
          Cheers.
          Paul.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Thanks I have started using 7.50 degrees on my 7s motor and it seems a little quicker in my rigger. For now i just going to wait for Steven to get more ul1 motor and esc in and put that i my balsa cat.
