    Genesis stuffing tube damage

    Hi all, first post.

I'm a FE boating newbie and like many others, have just gotten a Genesis Cat from
HK. I checked the box and boat over and everything came through shipping great except for the stuffing tube. It looks like the box was dropped on the transom end and pushed the strut forward and kinked the stuffing tube.

My question is, should I just replace it as it's set up from the factory or should I take the opportunity to change anything that might be lacking from the original setup. I don't know a whole lot about boats, so that's why I ask.

A lot may have to do w/ your future plans with it. However, I would maybe change it to .150 flex w/ 3/16 prop shaft if you plan on leaving it pretty much stock or similar. Also, you may begin to dislike the sq drive and what it takes to grease the shaft. Its quite the chore.

OSE has all the product you need to swap out the tube. .150 w/ liner takes 1/4" tube.

I plan on leaving it relatively stock. By square drive, do you mean the profile of the drive cable is square? I'll have to look at it.
Is there any technique for removing the part of the tube thats epoxied through the hull? I don't want to do any damage.
Thanks for the tips and the welcome!

I think I can help, I have one. But yeah, photos would help us understand the situation better.

The cable has a square end that goes into a "hard prop shaft" that is captive in the strut. (the threaded steel shaft the prop goes on)

The tube is easy to replace, some epoxy and some silicone and you'll be good to go.

The drive setup is basically this one:

You can get the tube/cable all in one:

Thanks for the tips guys, I think this should be pretty easy to fix.

One last question, if I change out the square drive, can I use the same strut that came with the boat? Thanks again.

an easy way to remove the stuffing tube is to heat it with a soldering iron it softens the epoxy and you can just pull out the tube, I use an 80 watt iron to do the job.

If the new cable/wire drive is a 4mm drive or you drill out the strut to accept the 3/16 cable/wire drive and bushing, then yes.
