Painting a gel coated glass hull

I've got two hulls coming that are not painted, just white gel coat. I've never worked with this material before, so want to know the proper way to decal, spray trim design and clear coat.

I have an air brush, but not sure the appropriate paints for both color and final clear.

I'd like to think I could tape off a design or two and paint some accent colors, apply a decal or two and a final clear coat.

    Any recommendations?

I assume you are leavint it white as the base color then adding some flames or something?
You will need to scuff it up so the paint will stick. If it is just small areas you are doing for the flames/graphics I would get a few of the Duplicolor touch up pens. They come in lots of colors and will work well in the airbrush. then you can use Duplicolor clear or an auto clear like PPG omni. which also works over most paint. I just cleared a boat that was painted with Krylon Fusion for the hull color then used Tamayiah (sp) for the graphics and the PPG auto clear and it came out great.

Yeah, basically a stripe or some accent area or two painted a different color or two depending.

OK, so automotive paint, scuff the gel coat where it is to be painted and clear coat. Cool.
I should be able to do this with my airbrush setup. Thanks for the tip on the pens, didn't even think to load them in the brush. Likewise I could get lazy and just use one of the touch up sprays.

Would the polycarbonate paint used on lexan bodies be an decent idea? IIRC it's a laquer. It's flat and meant to coated in clear. I only ask because I have a bunch already and in colors I could use.

I have not tried it but I think Rod (Hydronut on the board) has used it quite a bit with good success.
