Mamba Monster Max 2200 combo on large hull possible?

Hi guys, can you help me with this thing...

-I have the MMM 2200 combo on my truck, but I want to use it on boats too.

I have this on it´s way here and thinking of using the mmm on it.

I have 4s Lipos and not looking to go fast, just scale cruising with long run times.

So the prop would be small(ish) .

-Is the 2200 too much kv?
-water cooled or not? (I see that Steven has nice looking jacket for this)

-does the monster esc need water cooling ? (large hull with lots of air to cool it)

I have water proofed the esc allready.

the boat says it comes with an esc and motor, but the mmm should be fine with out water cooling

Thanks , I do know that it comes with esc/motor, but they cant be that great if the boat cost 210$ with them!

So I guess the only question is:

      -is the 1515Y/2200 too much...

The answer is yes. It is too much. The hull is a scale. So its will want to behave the best at a speed approximate to its size. My guess would be 15 to 20 mph tops. Realisticly probably less then 20 mph. Its top heavy so going fast and turning sharp will result is a roll over. I would think that the stock motor, 36-60L (a hacker B50-15T copy) would suffice on 3S. If you feel the need to make it better I would opt for a 540XL15T can. Or if 4S is going to be your battery preference then go with a 540XL13T at 1283 kv. But your going to need to make sure the batteries fit in the hull adequately. SInce I dont run scale hulls someone who does should chime in as they would be better to advise but my 2 cents say do not go with the 1515/1.5Y as it would be a waste of power and not to mention expense.

Thanks for your thoughts too John.

The reason I wanted to use the 2200 is the fact that I allready have one.
So it would save me money to use it.

I dont know what the Monster esc likes 3s, (less volts, more the Amp draw), and I dont really have any decent 3S batt.

I do have many 4S packs(20/30 to 30/40C 5000mAh), but I dont have any info of the esc included with the boat, like can it handle 4S.

If the included motor can handle 4S(I could set the throttle exp to 60-70% ? ), then that with the MM esc could work also.

But if the cost factor is the only reason you think that the 2200 is overkill, I would use it cause I have that, so there would be no extra cost for new motor.

(And there is no harm having some power in hand if some one wants to race.......... :)

edit: looking at this pic makes me think that it was build for one battery pack, and there is plenty of room for very large packs.

You would be better off running a smaller prop on 4S and running the throttle wide open. Theres no reason I can see that motor will not be able to handle 4S as well as the speedo. As long as the hull comes on plane easily. But its going to run wet and that can suck the amps. Limiting the RPM by adjusting the throttle curve will result in excessive heat on the FET's and the speedo will end up dying on you. Since you do have a 1515/1.5Y already then there is no reason no to play with things. Thats what makes this RC stuff so interesting. Maybe wait untill its in hand and plan accordingly?

Why would you want to go any faster than this vid.......its already probably 3 times what a nice scale speed would be.

It is not the speed I´m after Make-a-Wake.

I just cant afford any new batteries at this time.

John, that may be the best thing to do... trying different motors and esc´s I have.

-But, what about going the opposite route... I have few 2S lipos too, I guess these would get it to plane too? -and at scale speed.

But like I wrote I have no Idea what esc it is and what it can handle.

I guess there is no harm trying the 2S lipos first on the stock esc/motor.

Dang, I have to admit that is cool as heck. Maybe it's time for me to step away and go back to the scale boats. I wish I had some info as far as the setup you need but whatever is in that boat in the vid impressed the heck out of me. You guys are so resourceful sometimes its the simple things that really matter.

Im pretty sure its a stock setup............here's another vid from a guy in china..............i have a hard time believing everyone has hopped theirs up. Goes pretty good later in the vid.

Pate, i havent ever seen a 125 amp esc that isnt 4s capable at least........run it on 4s and prop it down a tad. Just make sure you at least check the instructions to see the voltage range or do some research on the esc when you get it.

Well ,you cant get everything for 210$.... I have plans to install the graupner z drive on it later on. -but it only takes the 820 and ultra motors(all brushed)

I have done this mod b4 with my friends fastech
