Hello Fellas, I've been into R/C cars and trucks (nitro and electric) for about ten years now and am thinking about buying my first boat. I already have a good radio (M11x) and good charging equipment (Hyperion/Novak) but have no idea what to buy first to get into the water. Like the looks and performance of the Aquacraft UL 1 and the Kintec Racing 25" Prince and was wondering what your advice here would be as you seem like a friendly bunch! I am close to a few large ponds and small lakes with conditions from glass surface to choppy and everything in between. I can wrench and I can solder so I don't really consider myself a complete newbie here. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks.
Advice on first boat

Welcome to the forum. Many guys like the UL-1 but I'm not sure if it will fare well with a beginner. The RC Prince is a good boat as well. I have that hull but I have yet to get it wet. You may want to search this forum for the "Prince" as there are a fair number of fans of that hull.Government Moto:

I got a prince and for a newbie its a rocket.
I dont think its to good for choppy or even slightly rough conditions.
The DF 33" copies look a little more stout. I would be interested in one of those but I told myself the 25" Prince was as big as I would go.42" Osprey, 32" Pursuit, 26" Bling Rocket (rescue), Blizzard Rigger, JAE 21FE rigger, Hobby King rigger (RIP)Comment

I'd recommend a Vee Hull since you have indicated choppy conditions occur..........The UL-1 would not do well in chop..........and you would end up having to wait for glass days.........NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? This is the Prince I was referring to....I've been reading some old threads on this thing and it looks pretty good handling wise. I am a bit worried about the electronics though. Is the HobbyKing version better?

This will depend on what you are looking for. I'd recommend a mono hull for a first boat, as you have the most flexibility on where to run it as they can handle choppy water.
If you want a solid boat right out of the box with great stability that can handle chop, the proboat fastech is a good choice. Downside on this boat is the hatch is really hard to waterproof. My son runs a proboat fastech and he really likes it. Not as fast as the SV but it won't capsize nearly as much.
If you like to modify/tweek/go for all out speed, the SV27 is a great choice. Just have a rescue boat ready as it is not as stable.
