Are you talking about the aluminum tab? if so you will need a zink flux or aluminum solder paste for the the solder to hold.

Not sure which solder you use but something like a thin 60/40 lead/tin solder should be fine.Comment

I recently needed to solder some aluminum cell tabs and I found the perfect stuff. Cheap battery packs sells Zinc Flux and the Zinc Solder. Awesome stuff. Works much better then one would think. Of course there are ways around needing to buy new flux and solder if you want to use what you already have.
You can submerge, yes you read that right. Submerge the tab that needs to be soldered in mineral oil, heck you can use motor oil, while soldering. The key is to keep oxidation from forming while applying the heat from the soldering tool. Then you can use your normal 60/40 solder and rosin flux.
I dont like the oil method as it smokes, cough/ cough, while getting the tab hot. That why I chose the zinc method. But I do recommend you have a very large soldering tool. I prefer to use a propane torch with a solid copper "V" tip. It has a huge thermal mass and you can apply lots of heat in a very short while, then cool off the tab with a water soaked paper towel.
Any ways, my project was to make 2 6S packs (old 20C packs) into 3 4S packs. Turned out very nice and I got to reutilize some packs that just werent keeping up with the hi power setups that these packs were in before. With new 10 ga wire/ 5.5mm bullets and some spiffy blue heat shrink they look like NIB packs!
