Will my RC hydro esc work with dual Traxxas titan 775's?

    Hey guys,
So i'm working on putting dual titan 775's in my original traxxas villain! I had a rc hydro's esc running the titan 550 marine motors but will that same esc work if i use dual titan 775's?

If you keep the same prop, yes. If you dramatically increase the size of the prop (which the bigger motors will handle), probably not. However, if you increase your prop size a little at a time and monitor ESC temperature along the way, you'll be able to keep from melting your ESC. I would target keeping the FETs 130 F or lower.

Don't forget the diodes! If you need more, I have them. I think you can buy them here as well.

Big diffeence in amps if you run the motors in series or para.

        Hey Guys,
Thanks for your input. Okay i'll share more details. So I have 3 routes i can go

        1. RC hydro's esc (not sure on the specs on this model maybe you can help me on that andy?)
        2. Jeti 600 Navy esc 8-30 cells and 60 amp output.
        3. Traxxas evx-2 16.8 volts not sure on the ratings. It says rated at 180A but 30A Continous ? I have one of these right now that im not using but another option is running 2 of these.

I would like to wire the motors in parallel to increase output? After all thats the whole point of putting in bigger motors right? lol Let me know your thoughts on this. Also some mods to the boat are Octura 447's counter rotating, Graupner U Joints , Larger drive shaft tubes with bearings.

I had to shave the motor plate out to get the mounting holes for the 775 motor

That's one of the VERY early SC-3's (no solder mask), probably about 1997. It's for 6-15V, 90A.

It's opto-isolated and will need a receiver pack to operate.

It's neat to see my stuff that old and still in use!

            Hey andy,
Yah i have had this esc for awhile. I think i got it used from a boat i bought back in 2001. Its been through flips, rolls, and jumps and its still going strong. Do you think this esc can handle the task of running dual titans 775? Can i use lipo batteries with this esc?

You can use lipos with any esc.............you would want to protect your battery by running an external LVC though. I know for a fact that in a boat the EVX will thermal running twin 700's.........even the water cooled version.............been there, done that.

I happen to be on the final tweaking stages of my twin 700 Villain IV. Got it off ebay..........Running twin 8.4BB Graupner 700's on 4s lipo. I have used the original mounts although they have been modified to lower the motor, placing it in line with the shaft for direct drive. 5mm to 4mm couplers are used. Motors are can and brush cooled and have internal fans as well. Octura x442's are used, counter rotational. In the pics you will see my EVX that kept thermalling. I got a Novak 828 HV 500 amp, with 1200 peak, i have it fan cooled now which is working but i am going to add a water cooling plate to the sinks for greater efficiency. I have taken it out just a few times and now i am trying to get the weight and trim all adjusted...............its still just a tad squirelly in the corners.

Wow thats a crazy setup you have! Yea i want to do a similar setup as yours minus the direct drive. So i have a feeling that i should run dual esc's to keep things in safe temps. Do you guys have any recomendations for a external lvc?

Here's what i use for an LVC............nice piece of equipment and very affordable, they make 2s and 3s as well
