Carbon filled props? Two blade? Three blade?

I'm toying around with a new boat and thinking about trying the Carbon Filled props. Cheap and no prep time required makes them very appealing.

I'm using the stock plastic props, so this should be a nice upgrade.

Any draw backs that should be considered?

Should I go with 2 or 3 blade?

I had no problems using them with a pair of 2s lipos. I have changed to a pair of 3s lipos and the props self destruct. I don't think they can handle the higher RPM's generated from the 3s lipos.

Fwiw I have setup that is good for close to 30krpm at the prop and have run a few of the CF filled props. They last seconds, a minute at best, but gave me the info that I need to now buy a good metal prop.
This was running a CF 442 on a 9XL fed with 5S in my big cat.

CF props have their place but not on bigger power setups, for me at least.
I will continue to use CF props for testing and running my smaller setups.

How exactly are these props destructing? I got some Graupner K-Series 45mm CF props for both a mono and a hydro running 4S with SV motors/ESC's. I haven't run them extensively yet but haven't had any issues with a few short runs. They perform as well as the metal props as far as I can tell.

I'm running 48mm props on my 29 Delta, and a 51mm on my 1521 4S powered 31" Cat with no issues.

Never had one break over the years unless I ran over something.

I have used the CF props off and on and none had failed, except when I hit something underwater etc. They are pretty good. The beryllium(sp) ones are much better of course, but still, if you are watching your budget they are a good buy.

We have 1/10th scale hydros using the 45mm graupner for a long time on 4S and they do not self destruct

Nice. I bought a few for testing, etc. I'm quite optomistic about them. My current estimated peak RPM is right around 30k.

I will say again-I had no problems running the carbon fiber props when I was running a 4S set up. The props cannot handle the higher RPM's should you go to a 6S set up like I did.

I've run, raced and won while using carbon props. I have no issues running carbon props on boats that run 40-50 mph with 7xl or 8xl motors. Most of my boats are setup to run in the 25k-30k area. More than that isnt needed for my personal setups. If a person needs more rpm than that, they should also have the ability to sharpen and balance a prop, so use metal.
