What kind of boat? Was your hatch not taped? And that sux... Public Safety Announcement... dont swim for boats.. bad things can happen. LOL Get yourself a rescue rig. -
That does suck, the water is still pretty cold here in MA. You should get yourself a rescue boat. I swam for a one or two before I bought myself a kayak, its a safer way to retrieve it and also give you the piece of mind to run your boat more on the edge.
Where do you run? I work in fram alot so I go to lake cotichuate by rt.9 from time to time. You should make the trip to the south shore one of these weekends, it was a good time today.Rico 29, Sprintcat 34, Insane FE 30 Hydro, 43'' Aeromarine ConquestComment

i run at learned's pond in downtown framingham. i run other places too but i was in that area today. plus its nice and clean in case i have to swim. yeah south shore might be cool. my uncle lives down there so it could be a good excuse to take a trip. i know exactly where you are talking about. the boat ramp there? good spot...but i look for more low key places. dug pond in natick is good too. also ashland state park. you gotta park and walk but its a nice big alcove to run and sandy beachComment

And my bro said he got 8" snow in VT the other day. Get a boat or a fishing rod with a big jig so you can wing it out there. I never run further than I can cast.
I did get a new kayak that is fun that works as double...only when I drive my truck which is seldom. Maybe just sit out in the kayak and run like crazy so it is already in the water and ready???Comment

Tragic Loss Of Father And Son, Mark Volz And Mark Volz Jr.
MAY 18 2010 5:01 PM
The following details have just been released to TLS by the Lakewood Police Department Press Secretary, Detective Lt. William Addison, after yesterday’s tragic accident which claimed the lives of a father and son. At 1812 hours, Lakewood Police Department responded to the area of 1750 Cedarbridge Avenue at the small retention pond to investigate a suspicious circumstance. A citizen reported that at 6:00PM he observed a Red Radio Controlled Boat bobbing up and down in the water with no one around. He further indicated that he went to the Post Office on Swathmore Ave and then came back to the scene and parked behind a Green pickup truck, got out and did not observe anyone around, and called the Lakewood Police Department.
Lakewood Police Department responded and canvassed the area, observed that the pickup truck one door opened with expensive radio Controlled Boat apparatus unsecured and near the south shore, a fishing pole was laying in the grass and about 10 feet away was a pair of boots, a set of keys, and a wallet also lying in the grass.
Deputy Chief Fred Capper and Captain Michael Mooney had responded and made the determination that a drowning may have occurred and requested a dive team response.
The Brick Dive Team, Pioneer Hose FD, Station 22 responded to the scene. Several of their personnel responded and a search of the pond commenced at 1905 hours. At 1908 hours, a middle aged male was found 40 feet from the shoreline in about 8 to 10 feet of water and removed from the water. The water search continued and it was necessary to call additional divers to relieve the first set. Point Pleasant Boro Fire Dept. #1 Dive Team out of Station 40 responded to assist in the water search. At 2011 hours a younger white male was found submerged 115 feet from the south shoreline in about 8 to 10 feet of water.
The Lakewood Emergency Medical Services responded and the Lakewood Emergency Management Services responded with light towers as daylight was fading away.

well in my defense i was on a beach running it. i know the pond well and im a strong swimmer. there are thousands of swim related accidents every year not related to rc boat retreival, so be safe whenever you're near water, and yes if you arent a strong swimmer take precautions. but saying NEVER swim for a boat is like saying NEVER swim at all. there are dangers in everything we doComment

Well look at it this way.....if your life is worth only a few hundred bucks,,,swim for your boat.
I'm sure that many of the dead swimmers you refer to also thought they were "strong swimmers".Grand River Marine Modellers

what is it, exactly, that makes swimming for a BOAT so dangerous? i mean, is there some added element of danger, or are you all saying don't swim in ponds? is it having to push the boat in while swimming? i have never heard why.Comment

I swim for our boats on occasion also ---- but before I get in the water the first thing I put on is an approved chest life preserver! Never go in after a boat with out one!
I am an accomplished swimmer - been thru drown proofing school while in the Corps(twice) and still think watching my boys graduate is the most important thing!
