    mean machine problems.... :(

so i finished my mean machine with the hydra 240 and the feigao 10 xl and i powered it up in my garage and the motor wouldn't spin the prop very fast. it was also making a very horrible sound. it sounded like it was struggling to start spinning. i'm super lost and bummed cause i'm going to a lake for a week tomorrow.

just a thought-did you grease the flex shaft?
    and oil the motor bearings:D

did it sound like it was "missing" like turning the motor on &off really fast?

the solder conections are all good. it does sound like it is turning on and off very fast. i don't know if i screwed up on the flex tube or what. i'm actually leaving to lake powell right now but if you could analyze all the possible problems and give all possible answers i may be able to get service at lake powell for a few minutes to check the forums. thank you so much in advance

First off, never power up a BL system on the bench at full throttle. It is okay to blip the throttle to check rotation direction, but not to give it full throttle. This is especially true with the Chinese motors, which have been known to shed magnets, etc. The motor will not see that high rpm in a boat, and neither will the flex cable, etc.

But since you have already done it - it sounds like the motor may be cogging. Cogging can damage an ESC quickly. Reasons can be shorted windings in the motor, loose connections between the motor and ESC, or a bad/damaged ESC. If you have another motor to try, install it and just blip the throttle to see it it does the same thing. If not, do the same with another ESC if you have it. What settings do you have on your ESC, how many volts are you running, and are you using the BEC or a seperate receiver pack?

I doubt it is the cable, that is usually a heavy vibration but not an on/off sound.

i was just going to say cogging.
also your battery packs will have something to do with it as well.

also check the length of your screws mounting the motor if they are to long you could have put them through the windings causing the short.

i think that i did screw the mounting screw in too far. i am using two duratrax4200 mah packs and two intellect 8.4 volt batteries. so they are a pretty high quality battery? i think. my problem is that i didn't have the bullet connectors so i just soldered the motor straight to the esc. last time i listen to the local hobby shop.... i just got internet access and i'll lose it soon k hopefully i can get it resolved...

Actually the last time I talked to Castle Creations they recomended to me that is the best way to connect the esc to the motor. (solder).

Those Duratrax are not high-quality packs, but that shouldn't matter at all with your problem. Too-long screws will permanently damage the motor, that may be your problem.

BTW, soldering the ESC to the motor is the best way to do it, assuming you can solder well. The only advantage to connectors is ease of switching components.

so i tested a new motor that i had and it worked. it was just spinning super slow! i used two intellect 4200mah 8.4v batteries and it was spinning SLOW! i dont' know if this is just a slow battery/esc combo or if it requires a lipo setup but i'd like to get this boat working thanks.

Have you gone back through your initial controller setup using your pistol grip controller with the new motor?
