    Hydro hooking in turns

I have a Vac-U-Pickle that I am tweaking the setup on. I have the straightaway ride nice and smooth and fast but she "hooks" in the turns. It is as if gradually adding rudder has no effect and then all of a sudden it catches and hooks the boat.

    How do I fix this?

It has more to due with cg and the shape of the turn fin than the rudder.

Post some pics of your setup.

It's a Smock racing IROC model. It ran great when I got it but some how I must screwed it up.

That's a thought. I will check it against Doug's pictures.

Every VacuPickle I've seen does this occasionally. My solution was to not let off the trigger as much going into turns, so far - so good. I read on RRR that it may have something to do with when the boat slows and the prop torque increases, but I'm open to anyone's input on this as well...
Mine hooks about once every three heats, so I figure it's likely my driving is just crappy...

Just a thought, but I've heard of riggers doing this when the rudder doesn't have clean water, such as the wash of the prop. I'd also check to see if the turn fin is still straight and ensure you aren't compensating for the off axis drag with the rudder trim. I had a similar issue when I didn't get my turn fin on a Viper truly straight after hitting a carp.

Another thought, although unlikely, is that perhaps the prop is hopping due to too much lift. When the stern hops, the turn fin catches and could result in the hooking you are describing.

I'm not saying any of these are the case, but simply throwing some additional ideas out there. I do not and have not owned this model. Doug Smock (D.Smock) can probably provide the best input regarding this specific model.

                          Hope this helps.
