Yes you are right!
Any video resolution can be upconverted but quality to be full HD will not.
If your frame was recorded at 640x480, yes you can resize this frame/pixel all the way to 1080P but quality will stay the same it will not be better period. You can apply some video filters to get rid of video noise and other staff your non HD camera wil capture to improve quality but that is it.
Simple, if you like to see HD quality, not the HD resolution, it has to be recorded in HD.

I like this video, will try one day.
Your clip is 480P. That is not HD. Yes you can now resize to 720P, 1080i, 1080P etc but quality will not improve and that is my point. Your camera is not capable of recording 720P from begin with and no simple software will improve quality just by resizing it.
Thank you for respond.
Robert
Agree and I have included a video to demonstrate it.
The video is from an onboard camera on a Mean Machine running a 580 motor on 4C. It is NOT set up in any way, just a small plastic prop. I am experimenting with a way to get performance data on the video rather than a video overlay. The problem with the video overlay is that it must be recorded in something like H.264 format unless you want a large DVR onboard. My approach is to keep it simple with useful data at reasonable high quality. Here is a picture of the set up and a link to the video:

1. The camera I am using is capable of a FULL 1080P at 30 fps. That indeed is true HD. I choose not to load full HD on a Utube site. I have included another video to try to answer Steve's question about the glare on the LCD display. I do have a solution I believe for that but now I am focusing on the feasibility of doing this at all to see if the effort is worth the data I get back. The glare on the LCD data panel can go away by adding a special filter to the front of the LCD or by replacing the existing dim LED display with a more expensive daylight viewable unit.
2.My focus now is to integrate a 1000mW microwave transmitter into the unit so I can transmit video with the data display, (and audio if needed), back to shore or a base. I have the unit completed and will be testing it tomorrow. SInce it does not use 2.4 Ghz as its operating frequency I should have no problems with all the wireless signals around my testing area.
3. I started out using the HD camera with the EagleTree OSD however the weak link is an ultra small 1080P DVR. I have a few different miniature (50 gram weight) H.264 DVR's but even at the highest resolution they tend to pixilate the movement especially onboard a Fast Electric boat.
This is the link to a second test on a monohull. If you want me to try to post in 1080P I will try, based on your recommendations.
Best, Joe

I just remembered I posted a previous video showing my very first preliminary tests with the wireless system. In this case I used a 600 line Sony color board camera into the onboard microwave transmitter. However since I wanted to ALSO record the onboard video as well as transmit it, I replaced the Sony board camera with a 1080P DVR system. I also miniaturized the transmitter quite a bit. Anyway, this will give you a general idea...................

Thank You.
I am not saying your camera is not HD. It is. I said the video link was not HD as you mention it earlier.
All I am saying is that some people here are under impression they can make regular 640x480 video on non HD device and make it look like HD quality just by resizing the file to 720P or higher.
I respect what you doing becouse it is very cool.
Would love to see HD recorded on board for sure. Post it please...
Thank You
Robert

...most HD cameras are still using some kind of compression. This form of recording will allways create some kind of inperfection resoulting in video noise, glare, pixilating etc.. Uncompress HD video would be very high in size and time consuming for real, when videoediting. Remember that we are dealing with below $1000.00 cameras or camcorders....
Just my few cents....DJI Drone Advanced Pilot

Robert, Yes and I could not agree more with you. This up-res has been beat to death. You can now buy a 5 MegaPixel digital camera from China for less than $30. Problem is that it has a 1.2 MegaPixel chip that has been "digitally enhanced" similiar to what they are doing with the "HD" video on Utube.
There does come a balance between quality and upload time in addition to the fact the viewer needs a pretty fair computer to process the higher data streams associated with things like 1080P. I'll try to do some experiments and look forward to your opinion. Best, JoeComment

Great.
Is that 52 inch XBR8 on your wall? If it is it could not get any better....
When you look at the tv controlling your boat it is like sitting in it.
Next you need to install some hydroulics to your chair and there you have it, perfect hybrid boat simulator....

On the simulators...... you have read my mind. I built two Ferrari/F1 simulators for my office using Riccaro racing seats and force feedback. Putting electronic actuators on the unit now. Lots of fun and makes for some great parties.
It would be easy to hook a RC transmitter to a driving wheel and gas pedal from a video game. You just use the wheel and gas to control the RC transmitter joy stick movements. Using a wireless video link you can set on the couch and drive the boat just like you were in a real off shore racer. Great Potential with not much work. But now let's expand upon this idea..............
It is possible for anyone from around the world with Internet access to potentially control a FE on the lake in front of my house. I am doing this for marine research and data collecting on a global basis but it is also possible for fun and entertainment. Think about it. I would have the boat transmit video into SKYPE instead of a human's face form the integrated laptop or computer camera. I developed an interactive control link that can be used with SKYPE so it is possible to control up to 12 functions on the other end, ie, the remote location mini research boat...............or a FE on some lake half way around the world. It has the possibility of opening up a whole new realm of possibilities. Guys in Antarctica could control a FE boat in Hawaii! Give me one of those blue, tidy-bowl type drinks with the paper umbrella in it.....and get Elvis back on stage!Comment

Joe, that by far is the coolest thing Ive seen yet for FE. Ive got 40mph boats, Ive got almost 70mph boats and Ive seen boats approaching 100, but that by far is the coolest gadget yet. Excellent work! I want one!!!!!
Talk about virtual video games... except the crashes cant be fixed by a "reset"Comment

It could also destroy egos.....I got connected to a site that pitted video race car drivers around the world for a championship match. The first prize with a trip for 2, first-class all the way, to the Indy 500. Sponsored by Nissan. I got onto the site, raced my heart out and finally got the result. I was 14,569 place!Comment

It always amazes me by the vast knowledge of the people on the forum. Thanks for the video help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lipo Power sent me some tips on uploading to youtube.
We took the raw Sony file that's on my pc and uploaded it to youtube.
The results are here
By the way, the video is my son Stevie's baseball practice. He's the catcher.Steven Vaccaro

Thank You Steven.
Now we need Jesse to see it and follow it. He makes great videos and we need to see them in same quality as your video.
Sony HD camcorders are the best!!!!!

Lipo what software do you recommend to edit the files? I'm just looking for basic things. Like cutting down the video and adding a title and info. My worries are once I edit in the quality will also drop.Steven Vaccaro
