    How many of you build your own carbon/glass hulls

    I have experience with building wood hulls but I want something with a better strength to weight ratio. I would like to make a hull out of carbon fiber or fiber glass. I searched the forums but it seems like a lot of the glass or carbon hulls are bought from private dealers at a high price. Is there someone on here that builds them and can give me some pointers or a link?

      I build my own riggers with carbon and glass and just finished a wood JAE rigger kit. It is a lot more time to epoxy all the pieces in a kit as opposed to popping one out of the mold. Overall timewize to build a plug, layup the mold and pop one out of the mold will initially take longer but give you lighter and stronger hulls.
      Go here for the best practices and read the stickies;

      Discuss composite fabrication, laminates, core cutting, vacuum bagging, moulds etc.

      I'm others will have more suggestions.

        Wow

        man, that is not something easily covered in a forum. There is a ton of information on the web and videos available.

        Back when I started on composites and Carbon/kevlar, it was 1989. A bit before the internet. You had to be trained back then, order videos (on VHS!!!!), and learn by wasting a bunch of money.

        Start searching the web and watching videos and reading. Much more informative than reading a web post.

        And start small! Trust me on that one.
