    Sponson angle

I have a question on sponson angles on a Hydro Boat .....not the angle front to rear but the sideways angle thats touching the water. My boat shows a slight angle up to the outside when it sits flat on a table. My old Hydro Larsony hull had two diferent angles.......... .one flat and one on a angle. For SAW runs would you want it flat to the water or a slight angle. I would think the angle is for turning better. Hopefully i am explaining this correctly.

    AKA Dihedral angle
that's what the higher outside of the sponsons is called...
yes, it helps to turn but it also diminishes the contact on the water (when it touches).
I am not sure if flat or angled would work better for SAWs I have been using stepped flat for SAW and slightly angled for oval.

Hi Gary, that is referred to as Dihedral.

For SAW my thoughts are you want them flat. For oval racing the inside one can be flat and the outside a little dihedral... Thats how the whiplash comes.

For Oval racing I like about 1.5 degrees of Dihedral on both sides. Some boats you can have less on the outside if the anti trip is good. For SAW I like it Flat. But I ran 70MPH with the Zephyer on 7.4v and it has 1.5 degrees of Dihedral on both sides.

Thanks guys. Im only asking because since my SAW Hydro took a terrible tumble at 97mph im swapping everything over to my backup hull and while setting it up next to the other boat i saw this. I think since the new hull has one flat and the other slightly angled the the sponsons them self are off compared to the original hull......there both at a slight angle and the new one is not, one flat the other angled.
