My prior boat building experience consists of changing a prop on a Fastech...

You would be good in P Mono or P Offshore since we do not run P mono.

The SV-27 would be best in LSO.

To lessen any apprehension about official NAMBA racing rules, it's important to understand the distinction between an "official" NAMBA points race and a Club race, which the DMWB Trent Hare Classic Folsom race will likely be. NAMBA rules are rather specific, especially in LSO ; appearance, sponsor decals [2], NAMBA reg numbers , cockpit/driver location etc. Also, the number of boats to constitute a heat. If I can speak for my good buddy Randy, I'm sure the intent of this Club race is to get together some new FE'ers and get exposed to the great fun racing can be. The host club [ Devil Mountain Water Boilers] [DMWB] can alter the official rules to suit what shows up; all in the spirit of good fun/racing.
I drove 400 miles up to SF for the last THC a few years ago and only five of us showed up. We still had a blast - I got to hang out in Randy's shop, stayed at Dan Chase's house and enjoyed every minute of the whole weekend.
My advice : Go For It

"Current NAMBA LSO rules. Additionally, P-Spec Power Specifications shall apply.

Summary: Any NAMBA LSO legal hull with either 700, SV27, BJ26, Himax or AQ UL1 motor, using NAMBA P-class Power Limits (Power Limits: 10.1 to 15 Volts nominal, any chemistry. Maximum of 2 packs in parallel. Maximum capacity of 10,000 mAh.) Mono, Stepped mono, and Cat hulls are all allowed. Maximum length would be 34”."
                That would be correct.
