    Hydro turn fin

I have seen a Hydro's turn fin beveled on different sides and was wondering if there is a reason for this. Assuming we are talking about the hydro's that make right hand turns with the fin on the starboard side. My Elam has the edge cut on the outside. Looking at the way it's supposed to function it seems like it would have less drag if the "knife edge" was on the inside facing the port side. Also, which side of the bracket is better for mounting as I have seen differences here also? Thanks

Always bevel on the side facing the inside of the course. This will help to steer the boat to the left to counteract prop walk, plus in a turn the water will separate from the blade surface aft of the bevel. This forms a low pressure pocket which will help to pull the fin into the course.

Ok thanks Jay. What about which side of the bracket to put the fin?

Put the fin on the inside of the bracket, so water sliding up the fin in a turn does not hit the bracket and produce lift.
