    Opinions needed.

I just picked up my VS1 from the hobby shop . There are a couple of issues with the hull & i want your opinions on what to do with it. There is a small gap big enough to fit a exacto knive in between the lower angeled side & the vertical side on the left RR of the hull . IT can be filled with epoxy or should i send it back & get another hull ?.

If it's for sport, just fill it and move on.
If it's for racing, carefully check the alignment of the hull to be sure it isn't twisted. If it's OK, fill it and move one. Otherwise, take it back.

I would mainly just be playing around with it & occasionally race it. How do i check for it being twisted ?

I would send it back. That is unacceptable by any standards.

            Mike,

I have rarely had a 'factory' built hull without some imperfections. Although that one can be fairly easily filled and finished, If you're not happy with it, send it back. It's your money and you paid for a hull without holes....Re: twisted, you would have to put it on a set-up board to determine.

As good as they are, remember these are mass produced. There is always bound to be some small issue. If its twisted I would agree, otherwise it should be fine.

I just don't like paying for defects. Guess I'm too picky. It is irritating to have to pay to send something back though!

And where would you procure another assembled wood hull for that price????

It is assembled with some slop and the quality of wood but unless you want to shell out over $300 for another wood hull fill in the gaps and get her wet.

And the area on your hull where the gap is means NOTHING to how the hull will run. You will want to go over every seam as indicated by Ozzi.

I just checked to see if the hull was twisted . I used a table saw for a level surface. The hull is not twisted . I was going to send it back . But after reading some of the repliy's . Im 50/50 on what to do . If i do fill it in . Can i use straight epoxy or should i mix something in with it ?. I was thinkling maybe some fine saw dust so the gap does'nt show much . Unless there is something else i should use .

That will work. Use fine dust, tape it off to avoid excess sanding...

I just cleaned out the gap. I can know squeeze the gap closed . In stead of epoxy can i use thick ca & hold it closed untill it cures . Or should i use epoxy ?.

i would use epoxy, if you look on the under side were the sponsons attach these areas may need some as well, also check the stumble blocks.
i did these areas and then cleared the entire hull, bit of a pain but at least i know its done rite
