Motor for 26in BBY Scat Cat

Just got a 26in BBY Scat Cat from CircusCircus and I am trying to figure out what motor I can get away with.

I want to keep it light and am not looking for major speed.

    I am looking at this
    http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idproduct=8594

    with a 120 amp esc

Is this too high strung, not enough torque? I was going to try and stay with 1 x 7.4v lipo.

If you are running on 2S lipo it is a little hot, I would run something around 3000Kv and 2S2P on a 440 or 640 prop

I was wanting one of those, Ray. I think it is a strong motor but have not gotten one yet. 4S should make it crank.

For 2s i think this may a good fit........plus you can prop it a bit more aggressively if you choose with the power it provides.................its out of stock at the very moment but they get them in pretty regularly,

Or for 3s this should do well

Ran a Typhoon 500 in my DF26 today. Very choppy water but, it seemed to perform similar to the UL-1 motor, only its $25 not $57 or so.

I ran same prop as with the UL-1, a k42mm Graupner carbon. I also tried briefly for giggles, a Grim 40mm x57mm 3 blade and it rocked nice on that, just too much torque roll. The 42mm gave it similar if not the same speed as a UL-1 but, thats just a visual, not backed by real numbers.

I don;t have any water cooling on it and the second and third runs it came back quite nice, not hot at all. The first run with old Lipos it was hot but I could hold my palm on it continously without burn.

Best damn $25 motor I've ever tried. Hands Down!!!

I know your not looking for major speed but I had a SC 26 with a 540 13XL on 6S and that thing screamed. About 45 mph and that was about 60% throttle. The hull was to small for that big of a setup. I flipped it a few too many times and now its all cracked up. The SC 26 is my favorite catamaran out there and I plan on getting another one eventually. Only this time with a little less power.

I would reccomend maybe a 540S or 540L on 3, 4 or 5S. You might as well get some speed out of it if your gonna be building it. Otherwise it will get boring.

If you want something light on 2S I guess I would go with a 540 Small on 2s

My smaller cat is 23" and has a 540-12S in there which gets 3S for a 637 prop or 4S for a 432 prop.
This puts it in the the high 30- low 40mph area. I have got 72kmh (44mph) a few time but that was not wise for that hull.

I would suggest a 540-L size that can be run on 3 or 4 cells to suit your prop choice and desired performance.
The 540 S size is ok but I would do a L size if I had one sitting on my bench.

Then there is the Typhoon outrunner that Ray has suggested and that is an avenue that I will be exploring soon. Outrunners on big volts/low amps and wicked power !!
                    See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Good recommendation, I am building a new mold that the rear is shorter and fits in to the 2S NAMBA rules, I am running it in the 2S offshore class. I think it will be a lot of fun too.
