    polyester vs west system resin

For glassing the outside of a 30 yr old balsa tug, are there important benefits of west system over regular fiberglass polyester resin? or would polyester work just as good in this application?

    Thanks

Polyester is lots cheaper and can be purchased at HomeDepot. Easy to sand also.

Setup time will be quicker than West finishing resin. Depends on how much hardener you add. If more polyester hardener is added than recommended it will setup quicker.

Cool, thanks for the input. This is dad's build and he just wants more strength and water tight hull. I will recommend that he go polyester which he is familiar with.

        cheers

Yes but West was designed for boats and is the industry best. Seems high but goes along way.

Here is a search I did on google... If your looking for strength and water tightness, I would go with West Systems... Just my $.02
