    Burnt controller odor

If you run electrics? You have probably already burnt up a controller. It just happens. The strong burnt odor just never seems to leave the hull. I have found that if you spray or brush some clear coat inside the hull, it will stop the bad odor and maybe your buddies will stock kidding you about your stinken boat.

Oh, if you ask me there is nothing like the sweet smell of burnt silicon! Not to mention the brown cloud of death seeping from under the hatch!!!! I still have nightmares!

I would be cautious of spraying clear inside the hull compartment. Clear is a very flammable cocktail of chemicals and if the "burn" would happen again it could make the hull go up in flames pretty fast.
Stay in front and don't get sprayed!

DId you talk to the guys that I run with or something??

I have that smell on my cells too that will never go away. I put a brand new set of Flightpower Lipo's in my lipo vault the other day and today they stink too. Gotta love that smell!

Thats a good point SW, but I have sprayed it and burnt another one to a crisp and sprayed it again with no problems. I have also painted the inside of hull. I have not had any hull fires from NiMH batteries. If a Lipo battery catches on fire, it is going up in flames anyway. I also use balsa or plywood as a heat insulator that I use a sealer on, to protect the fiberglass and ABS hulls.. I have not found that it is anymore flammable than anything else already in the hull after it dries. Just a real thin coat is all it takes to stop the odor.

SW or anyone, this has worked for me, but we need something to seal in the odor that everyone feels is safe. What do you suggest?

This may sound weird but the last time I fried a controller, I removed all the electronics and poured about a half bottle of FEBREEZE in it (wife suggested it) taped it up and let it sit for a few days. no more sweet smell of silicone! Now if I can only remove the ugly scorch marks in it.

In most cases the odor can be eliminated by washing the hull interior with alcohol. Drugstore stuff, $1/bottle. Don't be shy, use a lot and mop it up with towels. You'll find the odor gone completely in most cases without the need to use paint.
