    ABC Props

I recently picked up 4 of ABC's Props and what a difference in their product compared to Octura's!

Octura's casting are real rough whereas The ABC props are so much cleaner!

ABC props (as with Octura) have some castings that are good and some that leave a bit to be desired. I find that the Octura props are easier to work on because the metal is softer but on the other hand the ABC props are less prone to damage. Bottom line they both have there good points as does Prather with the SS props.

ABCs are great quality... they also are the makers of the Grimracer line...

Just watch out for the occasional center bore that's not centered...

From my experience I have had to work the hubs quite a bit to get the props to balance (mainly with the 3 blade props).

I ordered a Grim Racer 42 X 55 prop from Tower that never should have made it past QC. I called Tower & they replaced it free-of-charge, sight unseen. I was planning on using the defective prop for a key chain, but ended-up using it on my retrieve boat, as that application doesn’t require high RPM. Here’s a photo showing the defect in one of the blades that runs all the way through from the front to the rear . . . .

Well maybe looks are deceiving, haven't taken them outof the packages yet! The rear section of the hub on these ABC's don't have a lot of ???? where they mate to the drive dog. Overall the castings just look cleaner!

I've had good experiences with ABC props so far... the Grimm prop shown above looks pretty, well... grim. Unless it was meant to show a person where to cutback it really should not have made it past QC.

That Grimracer prop does look blemished, but I bet it will do just fine. Can I have it?

I've had only one Grimracer prop(42x55) and they are shiney when you get them basically because they have been tumble polished a little before they go out. I had to \work the hub on mine a good bit because of casting flash, but the prop ran great.

I love the Prather's. They seem, to me, like they have been much easier to balance, or were very close to balanced out of the package. Very clean casting lines, if any at all. The Octuras were somewhere in between. All are quality props. Personally I would rather pay less for a Prather or Octura and spend a little time making it purty

As stated in my first post, I’m utilizing it for propulsion on my retrieve boat. I balanced it, but didn’t bother to clean-it-up or sharpen it.

I have one Octura M645 that is rough looking as heck. It will take LOTS of work to get it perfect. One blade is thicker than the other and has lots of casting wiskers.
