    Reef Racer 2 Questions???

Ok guys I just purchased one of these for use as a rescue boat mainly but why not have a little fun with it too

First question would this setup work?.............http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_Boat_ESC

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_Inrunner

will that work with some 2650mah 3s 30c lipos i already have?

i used to run mine with a 38??kv feigao and a mystery and it was too much power, the boat would shoot itself out of the water because of the angle of the prop, i would reccommend 2s on a hot brushed motor

OK I'm pretty sure I want to go brushless due to the fact that i will have to replace both the esc and motor if I wanted to run a hot brushed motor lipo so the cost difference between the brushed cost or brushless cost would be negligable.

The only way I would do a hot brushed setup would be if I could get a pretty fast brushed motor and 2s lipo to work with the stock esc.

the stock motor with 3S is my favorite way to run these. The stock esc won't live long on 3S though.
I agree with screwball, the straight shaft and odd drive angle is the biggest hinderance to performance. At high speed they will nose steer and hop badly and stuff. The speed 400 bb race from grapner is a good brushed motor, but for brushless, you'll want a little more kv for 2S. I run a brushless in a gecko, I think it's 3650kv on 2S.
My most amazing rc boat wreck was with a hopped-up RR2. It was doing 30ish, stuffed, and barrel-rolled while shedding the top shell and the 2 hatch covers (yes, I had the boat taped as well...!) in spectacular fashion. Then it sank.

After I reeled in my failed retreival attempt, I was pacing, trying to figure out whether I should go after the floating pieces or go get my raft to see if I could spot the boat under water...I looked at my transmitter...it was still on! I figured - awww what the hell, and pulled the trigger...5 seconds later my topless reefracer shot straight out of the water and landed upright, and I was able to drive it to shore!

wow see I was trying to just have it run about 30mph and still be plenty reliable for recoveries

the bb400 race with 3S is plenty exciting! I CA'd a tiny eye-hook on the rear and attach that to the end of my fishing line. Zip it out to the stranded boat, go around 1.5+ times and reel in your catch.
            It works pretty reliably...
The bb400 race with 2S goes about 20. a nice noticable upgrade, but still a bit boring IMO.

Rather than surface drive, I was thinking it would run best with the subsurface drive turned into a flex shaft and curved so the prop angle is more appropriate...like real eco boats.
Also, it's nose heavy...but I think that could be helped if the prop attitude is corrected.

this thread has the parts you'll need and some good info:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...i-v+conversion
I haven't converted mine, but I've cut up the hull and have the parts.
Racing season is starting soon, so priorities are on the race fleet right now.
