    Thrust bearing for brushless motor?

Are thrust bearings used on brushless motors? If so are they used on all or just some?

If you have a pinned endbell, or a endbell with set screws they arent required. I do run them on Feigaos though.

The need for a thrust bearing is required when side loading is a known problem. Defined as axial loading. Typical radial roller bearings used in electrical motors do not function well when they are loaded in the wrong direction in which they were designed for. Spalling occurs and destroys the roller bearing pretty fast. Not all brushless motors are going to need a thrust bearing, because it depends on how much push or pull is being generated from the flex assy.

I am using a ammo 2300 with a .150 flex cable do I need a thrust bearing? And if I do do I need to get a different flex shaft coupler because I do not thing I can get the coupler down on the shaft to sandwich a thrust bearing?

        Thanks

Yep. They are cheap insurance for your motor. If you don't use a thrust bearing, the thrust from your prop and drive cable will be transferred to your end bell and bearing.
