    Troubleshooting ESC/Motor

    Hi,
I submerged my Traxxax Blast (don't laugh, it is my rescue boat... ok, go ahead and laugh as my rescue boat needed rescuing...).

Dried it out, took apart the radio, it was dry. Servo works, but ESC is not arming. The ESC is *supposed* to be waterproof, and it is sealed so I don't want to take it apart yet.

The motor is a brushed motor.

I checked the radio channels by swapping channel 1 and channel 2-- both channels will move the servo.

What's the best way to isolate if my problem is the ESC vs. the motor?

    Thanks

That brushed motor can be tested very simply, just connect the leads straight across the + & - terminals of a battery pack

I know traxxas is pretty good at warranty's and such. Look online to see what the replacement plan is, it might only cost ya 25 bucks or so.

Traxxas is very good with their warranty work. I sent in an esc from a friend of mine's villian and they replaced it for zero cost. They didn't question anything.....and actually called me to make sure I was happy with the new esc and asked if I had any questions. Also, in the paperwork that was sent back, Traxxas stated that any other other claims on the esc would be a $35.00 charge. Not bad for a fix or replacement if you ask me..

I have to say Traxxas customer service *is* awesome.

I got the Blast for for my son's birthday (before I knew anything about FE boats), and it sat in the closet for a long time, and the warranty expired by a few weeks. When we eventually took it out, we burned up the air cooled motor by running 20min on 5000mah batteries... They repaired the boat with a new motor, and threw in a water cooling kit for free, no questions asked.

Now, 6 months later, I called them for the new ESC. They tell me I have lifetime repair service on the boat, so just send it in. For $15 they will install a new ESC for me (vs. $50 to ship me a new ESC).

Sure wish they would build some faster boats!!! But the Blast does make a great rescue boat and is nearly impossible to flip (I, however, managed to scuttled it by tossing it into the lake and it landed upside down... ).

The steerable outdrive enables it to maneuver well at low speeds. I put an eyehook on the back deck and use it to haul out fishing line.
