All the vids are kinda bad bc I filmed while driving the boat. Pay particular attention to the "handling vids" though. you will see where it went from to what it is now. Some of it looks like its squirrley but its because of one handed driving and steering w/ my thumb.
Now its got an 8Xl.. no 9XL (changed it today) 8Xl on 5S was mid 50s.. 4S was mid 40s. Havent run it on the 9 yet....Comment

Hey Dom, look what I found from 8/11/09
FROM DOMWILSON
I think that after you get this all set and running good, you'll be buying a Feigao 9XL, An X442 prop and a good 120 to 150 amp ESC to make it run on 4s1p.
Subtle hints there....

good to hear you sorted it out and it runs well and the hull turned out decent.
Imo best way to learn about boats buy a rtr then fix all its problems and modd it till it screams, by the time you finish you get a good understanding on hull setup and what does what, plus its heaps of funComment

Direct g freak quote to a ul-1 question "where do you live we smoke those rtr's all day"

hmm.. I watched this video and if you listen to the rpm when that boat launches and leaps out of the water, its way more then when they get it on plane and run it for 50 feet. I wonder if they are holding it back...... I have never seen a hydro pull wheelies before with that much weight towards the nose! that plastic prop is flexing so much that its losing pitch, I am surprised it held up during those launches.Comment

Sean, you should see my UL-1
it jumps out of the water and does a massive torque roll!.NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8sComment

These guys are clowns. Why even put a number on speed that it clearly doesnt do? Maybe in scale speed! If all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed!Comment

Comparing their hydro to a UL1 isn't apples to apples. The run I watched was 5s. Plus it's not the 4s spec motor that's typical in a UL. Mike Ball ran the original prototype UL1 that the rest were based on at the nats with 4s and an open motor. That was nutty. The boat was a little faster than it was really designed for. The same is true of the video I saw of the G Freak hydro. Slow it down a t touch and run it through some traffic. The UL isn't perfect either but I know how well it can handle if you spend some time with it. In a straight line on 5s with an open motor? That thing better kill a UL. They always let off just as the thing starts to get harry. That's to much pony for the boat in my opinion. On a 1/6th mile course on a spec motor and 4s?......who knows. Might be a killer experiment. Throw the HiModel equivalent to the BlackJack motor in there and race along side guys that can hold a line and then tell me how fast it is.
There's a lot more to a race boat than raw power. If I put 5s on a 9XL in my P spec sport it would likely crest 65. But once I go to 5s I'm Q sport. Then I have to race FAS with his AC Sport. That beast can crest 70 without even breathing hard.Noisy personComment
