    Something is wrong with boat

I had this RC boat awhile back that got me into rc boating. It was a tpy rc made by nikko called the Tigershark. Anyways after I happened upon a villian EX it has rarly been used. The hull is very simple so I ripped out the stock electronics and installed hobby grade electronics. I got it ready for its first run in the water today with its new innerds. I pot up on plane and the boat immediatly started to roll to the side. I repeated this and everytime that I got up to speed it started to roll badly, once it nearly capsized but it rolled back over. ANy clue what is going on?

I don't plan for this boat to be a speed demon or anything, just a fun project.
It is running a 540 motor with direct drive to the stock driveshaft and stock prop. Has a mini traxxas steering servo and it was running on a 6 cell 2400mah Nicd battery. ANy clue what is going on? My only guess is torque roll. The boat is (off the top of my head) around 4-6 inches wide and about 20 inches long.

Can you post pics??? Did you change the motor?? Does the boat rise high up out of the water before it rolls, or is it rolling as it gets up on step?

I changed out everything in the hull except for the hull and the drivetrain and the rudder. The motor is probably twice as big as the original. It seems to roll when it gets up on plane, however I found a few times that I could fight it with the rudder by steering in the oppostie direction of the roll.

I didn't have any roll problems at lower speeds though

It could be lifting itself too far out of the water. Try a smaller prop if you can.
Can you post a picture of your setup?

Ill get a pic in a bit. The prop is already pretty small. I can't change it without further mods. Like I said this is a toy boat. I could change the prop but I would have to swithc out the wole driveshaft wouldn't I?

Maybe so. Can you just reduce the cell count?

Okay well I found these pics in my photobucket account. They aren't completly up to date. The only difference in them is now I have build a wooden batteyr bow and installed it, and I put the esc and RX in there. ALso I wasn't using that 7 cell sxs gp3300 pack. I was using a 6 cell 2400mah Stickpack.
Heres all the pics I have, if you need to see anything elsee just LMK.

I think your boat is over powered. What motor do you have there?

you could just move the batt to the side of the boat lifted up by the roll (should be the left side if looking at the transom)...it may sit strange in the water when still, but should keep it fairly level when up to speed...my OM21 had a similar problem...not as severe, but the hull is close in size and it runs on a 540 and 6 cells....i moved the batts more to the left of the hull...problem solved...

All I know about the motor is that it is a 540 and it is a stock ROAR legal motor. This guy sent me it for free one time along with a few other things.

WOuld the motor being located up front have anything to do with it?

Thanx, ill give it a try as far as moving the battery over. How far doyou think I should move it? ABout 1/2 inch?

That is a 27 turn motor then. You need to reduce the cell count since you can't change the prop. Moving the batterys may help but I suspect you will burn the motor up with that prop. What esc do you have? It may be at risk also.

Its an old Novak foward only. 410-M1 if im correct. Its not water cooled. So you think its a 27turn motor? I have a 23 turn 550motor that should fit fine and will probably run at a bit less RPM. SHould I try that? If not what about a traxxas stinger 19t?
