    Traxxas marine goes Brushless

Well I for one welcome a reversing brushless controller. I am not thrilled with the lack of water cooling or low voltage limits but if the price it rite it can be a way for guys to go brushless cheap. Allways a good thing :)

    Velineon 3500 Features
Ultra high-temperature sintered Neodymium magnets provide
    massive torque and linear power
Optimized for power and efficiency in 1/10th scale vehicles
Consistent, high-power output, run after run
    Low-maintenance, unique Traxxas design
    Efficient, high-speed ball bearings
    Low maintenance design
    Precision-balanced rotor
    Solder tabs
    Protective end cap
    10-Turn, 3500kV
    Rebuildable
    Hex hardware
    Brilliant blue-anodizing finish
    Silicon steel laminations
Delivers more power than comparable brushed motors

    Velineon VXL-3s Features
The VXL-3s auto-detects the motor type for brushless and sensored brushless motors.
Traxxas High-Current Connector eliminates a common bottleneck and maintains pure, unrestricted power flow from the battery to the brushless power system.
Built-in two-stage low voltage detection for Lithium Polymer (LiPo) battery use provides a clear signal to the driver that the battery pack is nearing its minimum voltage threshold.
Widest range of battery options ranging from 4-cell NiMH or NiCad packs all the way up to 3S LiPo battery packs (11.1 volt)
The patent-pending Training Mode™ is an exclusive Traxxas feature that reduces the overall power output of the VXL-3s by 50%, making it easier for new or younger drivers to control their model. When they’re ready, simply change profiles to unleash full-throttle action.
Advanced circuit design allows sensorless brushless motors to operate with the smoothness and precision of the best brushed systems. There’s no need for additional sensor wiring and hardware complexity.
The EZ-Set® push-button setup operates and programs just like other Traxxas speed controls such as the XL-5. This eliminates the need to learn a new set of procedures.
The VXL-3s is programmable with three drive profiles:
Sport Mode – Fwd / Brake / Rev
Race Mode – Fwd / Brake
    Training Mode™ – 50% Fwd / Brake / 50% Rev
    Multi-color LED provides clear feedback
Since the VXL-3s allows experimentation with many kinds of motors, it is equipped with numerous failsafe features to help protect against common mishaps that can cause other systems to fail.
Two-stage thermal shutdown protection protects the VXL-3s from overheating.
Locked Rotor Protection™ prevents system damage by cutting power if the vehicle is stuck or the motor is bound.
Sensor Phase Detection™ protects against improperly wiring aftermarket sensored motors.
Sensored Motor Backup protection causes the VXL-3s to switch to sensorless operation if a motor sensor fails or sensor wires become disconnected. Sensored motors can be used without connecting the sensor wires to the sensor port on the ESC.
Battery Over-Voltage Protection™ causes the ESC to go into failsafe mode if the maximum input voltage is exceeded.
Water resistent case design uses rubber seals and o-rings to protect against damage caused by water and moisture.
    Micro-fin aluminum heatsink dissipates heat.
The built-in auxiliary fan output powers a snap-on accessory fan for increased cooling capacity during extreme use. A handy clasp on the speed control case keeps the wire neatly in place until you are ready to use it.
MOSFET design provides high-current output (320 amp peak) with incredibly low resistance (.00075 (ohm)).
Gold plated 3.5mm bullet connectors on 12-gauge Maxx® Cable flow full power to the motor without performance strangling resistance.

i see a flaw already....since the motor wires go on the can, you cant fit a cooling jacket on it.....although traxxas going BL is kind of old news....they already have 3 of their vehicles in brushless about to be released (if not already)....the stampede, rustler, and bandit.......

Yes you are correct. Traxxas "Marine" brushless is new. Unless I have fallen of the face of the earth....lol

I don't think they came out with a brush less version for marine applications yet. I have not had much success with car stuff in boats

They are suggesting this combination is for marine applications. I saw it in this months RCBM.

Traxxas coming out with a marine brush less boat or marine brush less system would be great, like them or not Traxxas makes RTR easy and gets people into the hobby.

My first rc was a T-Maxx

I think he's talking about the existence of a Traxxas RTR brushless boat (The whole darn boat)

yeah, no new boat....im not making sure your right....technically, any brushless motor/esc combo can be used in a boat with the proper watercooling/waterproofing....

still though, i really wish i could buy one of those BL stampedes....maybe for christmas....if im lucky....

sorry, i meant to quote wickedgmc's post about traxxas coming out with a BL boat....they really should though, they have a killer hull and now a killer BL system....do i hear twin BL RTR boat anyone??:D

Ha, not from Traxxas. One step at a time for those guys, especially with the boats. Heck, even when they came out with a "new" boat it's really just an old hull detuned!

i cant see that tiny little motor moving a 31" hull....something tells me unless they run it on 3s lipo and gear it down, or make one with less kv and a longer can a brushless boat may be out of the question then...

Its hard to say. I would imagine a smaller hull like the blast would be better for that system.
