Prop suggestions for a N2 Sport Hydro

Hello all,

I am in the process of setting up my first hydro and I am looking for prop suggestions. I will be running it mainly for sport but would like to get into racing eventually. Here are the specs:

Hull: BBY Racing UL1 ABS Hydro - 24" x 14.5" (outside sponson width) with ride pads installed
Hardware: BBY Racing Hydro bearing strut and rudder, Turn fin, .150 flex cable
Motor: Feigao 6L (4096kv)
ESC: Etti 150 Opto with extra Caps
Batteries: 2S2P Flightpower 5000mah 20C for a total 7.4V and 10,000mah
Strut Height: about 1.25" below transom (appears level with front sponsons)
COG: approx 2.75" behind trailing edge of front sponsons
Weight: Ready to Run approx. 3.5lbs

The first run I ran it with a Y536 BSP just to take it easy and it ran tail heavy, I am guessing it needs more lift. Nothing was hot even after running it for approximately 8 minutes and it seemed fairly stable and turned well.

Any prop suggestions?
Here are the 3/16" shafted props I have in my current arsenal:
Octura Y536, X437/3, x637, X438
Prather 215 and 220
Grim Racer 38x55 High Lift, 40x52/3

I am thinking that the next prop I might try would be the Grim Racer 38x55 since it is a higher lift prop, but if there are other suggestions I am not against buying more props.

Brad,

I ran that motor in my N-2 mono last year. Same basic battery setup as yours. X637/2 is what I used. X438 and X440 may work well once you're dialed in on your setup.

With your list of props, I think the following props should remain on the shelf until you've got your amp-draw figured out: 215, 220, 40X52/3 (this prop pulled similar amps as an X442 for me).

Thanks for the response.
I actually have the x637 on the propshaft right now waiting to try it out. I just wasn't sure if it would have enought lift to get its tail out of the water.
I guess there is only one way to find out for sure.

By the way, Tony (ProperChopper) was telling us all kinds of good things about you the other day when we were running our boats. I wish I could make it to the Winter Warmups to run with you guys, but alas it is not in the cards this year. Maybe next year.

If you are just dragging your transom a lifting prop is probably not needed. Do two things while the boat is sitting on a dead flat surface:

1) Lower the prop another 1/8"
2) Angle the prop end of the strut down 1-2 degrees

Three fellow club members run N-2 Sport Hydros with the 7L motor and m440 props. Fast enough (around 40) and the racing is very close with the "spec'd" motor and prop. I'd try an x438 after making the strut adjustments. If that seems safe, go to the m400/x440. I'd not go over 40mm diameter with that motor.

I will do the strut adjustments as suggested and work my way carefully up to the m440, checking temps along the way.

we ran a BBY Big Splash Turbine in N2 sport hydro with a 6L on 2s2p 10,000mah on an x438 prop we gpsd the boat at 49+ mph. I also ran that motor in a H&M Lifter with an x438 2s2p 10000mah gps over 50+mph. your boat is smaller, lighter than my boats so yours should SCREAM!

I am just hoping it will stay on the water. I may need to add some weight a little forward of the COG to keep her in the water at those speeds. We will see.....
