Jay what version software is in your 40.160?
The only available software is v16 - actually I used two different 40-160s on the same day (one had ten caps), and both had the same issue. It has noting to do with caps anyway, the software loses position of the rotor and shuts down. The "D" winds have too low of a resistance, the ESC can't always 'see' the rotor position at extreme amp draw - at least that's what Schulze told me.

Both Brian and I have had too many problems with this combination to ever use it again. These were top-end SAW setups, not for ovals. It's the OP's money of course, but I'd not risk $500+ on a combination with a known problem. If he just has to have a 40-160, I'd use the 1515/1Y motor. It should be enough for a 30" SAW boat.

I used the HV 240 in my mono on 6s 2p, 1527 1D motor and 645 prop at the LA saws and it worked fine. I made several passes and had 1 pass at 80 mph and then blew it over on the next taking the controller and lipos to the bottom of the lake. You must use full throttle as much as possible. Even when running out to the end of the lake I would squeeze slow burst of full throttle and let off till I got to were I wanted to be. Best to use very good lipos and pre warm them.

I won Q sport at the nats with a 240LV on 6s2p but that's no where near the pounding that this setup is giving it.

SAW setups are so out there. It doesn't take a lot of getting it wrong to break something. I've been sticking with ovals. Less carnage.

                Wow I've been very lucky!
I thought there was a V 14 out there several years ago.

                  I agree with fluid.

I would either add more weight to stern or try more negetive angle on strut to prevent hopping. Adding more cup to prop will also prevent hopping (I wish I knew how to mod props).

                    gary,

were you using a seperate BEC, or the BEC built into the CC?

I have given up using built in BECs on the CC products, I have melted 2 cc 120 hydras in very similar conditions (80 amps max pulled on a 120amp esc, and melted with no warning, all documented on an eagle tree logger) and the 3rd one has been running now for an entire season. the difference between the first two and the third is that the third is using an external BEC.

Do not use the internal bec when running over 3s!

                        As mentioned earlier:

                        1. A 240LV is a 4S speed control for anything hot. Too many racers have tried 6S even on mild set-ups to blow the ESC.
                        2. Adding caps will help to some extent.
                        3. running a 1527 1D on 6S is pulling exteme amps.
                        4. Of the available options for speed controls either the new 40.300 or a 240HV.

OK. I called Castle and had a very long conersation on my overbearing setup. The 240LV is capable of handling 240 amps all day.It can deal with a 300 amp surge for ten seconds and can withstand a 400 !! amp spike on a hop a few times. Its also advertised as "240lv,m445 prop,4s, 1527 1d as a good combination from Castle and Neu. All im doing is adding more voltage which is driving up the "adjitation level" of the ESC. More than likely something was wrong with the controller in my situation, who knows but i am under powerd buy the batterys like Fluid pointed out. Castle said they will check mine out, see what the problem is and build me a stouter ESC , something based off a 240HV I would amagine. My new batteries i orderd are 50-100c with a 530amp max output and should be more than enough power for two back to back runs in the 110mph range. She runs 98-102 on my present "burn-um up combination" . Hey i look at it this way.....Owner abuse or not ..who cares... I have just started out with this really fast stuff and i have already run some really good numbers with the Eagle Tree showing only a 4-5 mph two run difference so a little more time and i will get a handle on this....OR NOT !!!!!!!!!!!LOL ...Good Times....
