Rudder placement on a Mean Machine?

    Hi guys

Can you please tell me what distance the rudder should be in relation to the centreline on a Mean Machine?

There are plenty of pictures of setups in the Mean Machine threads but I could not find the exact distance to the centreline of the rudder..... I could guess the distance on the pictures but would appreciate if you guys help me.

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers

looks good in the pics! You want it right around the edge of the starboard sponson.

Might just be the perspective from the photos, but that rudder looks awfully long. How much past the bottom of the sponson should the rudder extend on a cat this size ???

        Thanks Rumdog.

Personally I do find it very long compared to the other rudders I have in my other boats.......

However it seems that most Mean Machine owners are using that rudder successfully.

        Its the speedmaster 21 below.

Might cause some drag but should provide plenty of turning abilities.....

        Cheers

It is a major mistake to use a small rudder on this hull. I tried a SpeedMaster "mini" rudder and the cat spun out and hooked all the time. The longer rudder cured that problem. The straightline speed sacrificed is minimal compare to the ability to turn smoothly and fast. You can cut 1/2" off the longer rudder without hurting the turning if the length bothers you.
