    Stretch Rigger

Converted a toy NQD Arrow Wind outrigger to hobby grade on the cheap about a year ago (my avatar) and finally got a chance to run it this weekend (can you say procrastonate?!). I had stretched it by moving the sponsons forward 2" to make room for a lipo and esc. Has a Hobbywing 3600kv jacketed motor, a 34mm plastic prop, Mini hardware and I used a 35A Seaking for the trial run.
It did OK (I didn't do too well!) Gets on plane right away and everything stayed cool after a several minute run. I'll need to raise the strut a bit and make a turn fin - I have to make w-i-d-e turns or 'Starsky and Hutch' turns right now. But it scooted (I don't have a gps) I estimate right around 40mph (actually that's a guesstimate). Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvoBTntLHqM. And another short vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWnF6unT8r8. It looked cool towards nightfall as the leds of the esc would shine thru the hull and flash as I changed throttle settings.

Anybody have this happen?: On the last run coming back to shore I let go of the throttle (abruptly?) and when it floated in I discovered the prop and nut were missing! (Lucky me she made it in). Did I cause that to happen or was it getting loose and it just happened to fall off then? I don't have the esc set for brake or anything, so I don't know whatth..

It was probably loose to begin with. I use a small drop of Loctite penetrating thread locker on mine. It won't make changing props a struggle (It'll break free fairly easily), & you don't need to re-apply every time, as the threads will retain some of the Loctite for awhile.

Yes, I feel sure you are right. I don't see how the prop could turn the nut off with a drive dog holding it still. I'll use loctite the next time. I am grateful the boat made it to shore before I made that discovery! Thanks, Sdg.

Make sure to leave a gap between the drive dog and strut. About the thickness of your cable.

Rumdog, are you pulling my leg?I thought the drive dog transfers the forward motion to the strut, thus the boat. Otherwise, the force is tranferred to the motor (bearings). I have 3 phenolic washers and grease between the drive dog and strut. Why should there be a gap?

The cable shortens in length as it spins.

I checked what I have, & it’s actually Permatex Green. Absolutely don’t use the Permanent type, as it requires a temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit to break the bond. Just be sure to read & follow the application/usage directions.

I was thinking the same thing! I found this outrunner http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...28450_class%29 that has an integrated fan that might keep it cool enough. And the price is right too.
