    Large scale FE???

    Hi guys

Has anyone build or know of any large scale FE boats? Anyone did a conversion from Gas boats to electrics?

By large scale I mean the hulls usually used for Gas boating? They are usually at least 45-50 inches long and uses 1/4 inch flexcables.

What motor and ESC would be needed to push those monsters?

I heard of some airplane guys doing successful gas to electric conversion.

    Check this motor:

    12mm shaft!!!

    What do you think?

    Cheers

Check the KV. Way too low to use without a gearbox to bring the prop shaft back up to some usable speed. However, that might be possible. It would be interesting to see such a project..

I know lots of guys that have done it. Raced and Won against Gas and Nitro.

3040 Lehners, 3060 lehners, 3080 Lehners, 2215 Neu, and some of the New big High RPM out runners.

      8s, 10s, 2p and even some on 1p. Expect speeds of 55mph to 60mph.

Need high end Speed controllers. 40-160 Schulze (The Best) or 240 High amp castles.
(Tough to keep together). Some of the guys are having success with the chinese 200 amp controllers.

You will be pulling 150 to 200 amps. Need big dollars, Great quality equipment and nerves of steel.

      Keep us updated!

Similar with the 1/5 gas buggies being converted to electric. You get to such a point that the cost of doing so and danger of doing so is so pointless you may as well run gas. Not so much an issue with the boats but the batteries you require to have a nice runtime are massive.

Huge batteries, high amp ESC's and massive motors are all harder to get and therefore more expensive. You need a load of money.

          Well said.

Big electric boats are a blast, but they are expensive and not for someone who has little or no experience with electrics. And done right they are not cheap. You can get away with less than top end equipment with smaller boats, but large boats demand the best and even then they test the limits of the equipment and the driver.
          Don't get me started

Ken Joye made a big FE hull with an overdrive belt system....very cool and parts off the shelf!

Overdrive is the way to go when you have the muscle.

That is one massive controller. What do they cost on average?

What are your expectations as far as speed is concerned, scale boats normaly top out at 15 mph. What hull are you looking at?..Is it dual drive?
Scale boats look silly when they are overpowered.
