    rudder question

go you think a sv27 rudder would work properly on a 33" df copy

trying to see how cheap i can build it...or would i be wasting my time

its not a new hull or anything special

I dont see why not. Just mount it a little lower on the transom for some extra bite.

DF 33's [or a copy like mine] tend to nose hunt or spin out badly with short rudders. Mine did with a stock Speedmaster-drove me nuts (like the steering wheel on my belly ) - Until I installed a .21 nitro rudder trimmed @ 5/8".

Check how it now handles with the longer rudder :

      2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
      2009/2010 NAMBA P-Sport Hydro Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder, '13 SCSTA P-Ltd Cat High Points
      '11 NAMBA [P-Ltd] : Mono, Offshore, OPC, Sport Hydro; '06 LSO, '12,'13,'14 P Ltd Cat /Mono

This brings up an interesting question. On a mono hull is there a start point for rudder length beneath the bottom of the V hull. That is with the hull COG in a neutral position.

I've been told that the optimal rudder length should be approximately 1.5" below the arc of the prop.

I agree with Tony on this one. I have a Speedmaster .21 on my Delta Force 33. I cut 3/4 off the bottom and all is wonderful now. Here is the rudder. I know its not the cheap way to go but this is what Doug Smock recommended to me a few moons back.
              * BBY Lift Master RIgger * Insane Gen 2 Cat * Aeromarine Avenger Pro Twin * Delta Force Cyber Storm * Delta Force 41" Mono * H&M Viper II * H&M Intruder * OSE Raider Hydro * Whiplash 20 * Brushless Mini Rio *
